Cold Showers to Improve Health

There is nothing more relaxing than a hot Shower after a long day. However, you might not be getting the full health benefits if you are just taking hot showers. Experts recognize that cold showers can have long-term health benefits for all those who wish to face the chill.

Wake Up Wash

If you are a person who enjoys their shower routine at the beginning of the day, a cold shower can help you wake up and face the day. Doctors state that cold showers create a small shock to your system. That short shock causes increase alertness, heart rate, and overall oxygen intake. If you are already a healthy individual, exposure to cold can help boost your immune system for any attacks that your body faces during the day. However, if you have a chronic or underlying medical condition, sudden exposure to cold could cause a flare-up in your condition. Consult with your doctor if you have any concerns before you start exposing yourself to cold.

Healthier Skin

If you already have trouble with dry or itchy Skin, cold water can help alleviate some of that need to scratch. Some people with skin conditions report that cold showers reduce their urge to scratch. Hot water will dry out the natural oils from your skin; not only will this cause your skin to dry out faster, but it also loses its natural barrier again everyday toxins and dirt and oils. Cold showers are known to tighten and constrict the body’s blood flow, giving skin a healthy glow.

Increase Your Circulation

As mentioned before, cold showers can constrict the body’s blood flow. When the cold water hits the skin, it forces blood to go deeper into the tissue layers; as your blood flows away from the surface layers of your skin, your blood starts pumping faster as a method to maintain ideal body temperature.

Boosts Your Metabolism

Your body has several different types of fats. However, the two main types are white fat and Brown Fat. White fat is the type of fat that builds up when you consume too much energy or calories from your food. Brown fat is your body’s way of keeping itself warm. Brown fat has mitochondria, a type of cell that generates chemical energy to power larger cells; they have a high iron content, which gives it its color. When you burn brown fat, it produces heat for your body. If you expose your body to cold via a cold shower, you could burn a higher caloric rate to keep your body at an ideal temperature.

Reduce Sore Muscles

For many people, they associate hot showers with being the most relaxing. However, cold showers do have soothing and regenerative properties. When you take a cold shower one hour before bed, there is a decrease in your overall inflammation, an increase in recovery, and it allows you to sleep better. The effect is that you are less sore the next day and have more energy.
