Oh What a Difference a Pantry Makes

I’m always inspired by the blogs I read, and this Pantry reorganization project was inspired by Joanne at Slices of Life. Joanne recently posted about her pantry reorganization and it got me thinking about my own pantry.

This is what the pantry looked like when I redid it back in January 2020:

And this is how it looked in January 2021:

I mean, don’t we all look worse this year than we did last year? After reading Joanne’s post, I decided it was time, once again, for a change.

I had an idea when I started emptying the pantry, but I didn’t really have a vision. So I started by simply emptying the entire space.

Then I started working on the shelves. And they were really, really Gross.

Ugh, so very gross. Luckily, this was a lining that I was able to rip off. And I ripped it off with gusto. Cause of the gross.

We also had an absurd amount of plastic bags in the pantry.

Not only were the shelves covered the gross lining, they were also covered in a ton of paint. So I sanded down each shelf and stained them with this amazing color.

I was so happy with the way these came out and I really couldn’t believe how easy it was.

I don’t why I never stained anything before. It’s like magic the way it transforms the wood.

Next, I brought out the bucket of spackle and got to work on the inside of the empty pantry.

Then I covered the walls with two coats of bright white paint. I wasn’t sure about it as I was painting, and I initially intended to add floral decals to the walls. That is until, I saw the whole thing put together.

I went through all of the items that were in the pantry and threw out the expired stuff. I ordered baskets and OXO containers and organized all the remaining foods neatly into them.

Seriously, this was one of the most satisfying things. I wish I could do it all over again.

When I put it all together, I couldn’t believe my eyes.

It’s easily the best things I’ve ever created, aside from my children.

The day I finished it, I sat at my kitchen table and just stared at it. And every time I walk past it, it still makes me smile.

Believe it or not, enhancing this little piece of my house, of my life, has made such a difference in my sense of control in an utterly chaotic time in the world.

Also, it’s legit Pinterest-worthy. I don’t have a single other place in my house that is Pinterest-worthy!

Speaking of, you should Pin this 🙂

Have a great week!
