May 2022 Monthly Tarot Reading

Welcome Chickadee to The Earth Realm podcast and welcome to a brand-new month. With this podcast, we work to reconnect with our soul and integrate the truths of life, Mother Earth, Spirit, and the Universe.

My name is Rae and I’m a medicine woman and the author of The Human Experience series. And together we work to build a thriving life and home here on Mother Earth.

As we begin a new month, we are exposed to new Energy. This will be the reading for the month of May 2022.

[31 sec.] Oracle Card for May 2022 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To begin, I like to remind you of the oracle card that I pulled in last week’s reading. Within the final week of April, I pulled a single card to help prepare us for the month of May. I utilized the Goddesses Knowledge Cards, with the paintings by Susan Seddon Boulet and the text by Michael Babcock.

The Goddess that presented itself for the month of May was Flora with the message:

“Flora, “flourishing one,” was the Roman goddess of flowers, gardens, and spring. She is the embodiment of all nature; her name has come to represent all plant life. She is especially a goddess of flowers, including the flower of youth. Her festival of unrestrained pleasure,

the Floralia, was celebrated at the end of April and beginning of May; this festival was probably the origin of the maypole dance and the gathering of bouquets of flowers, symbolizing the bringing of spring and new life into the world. She gives charm to youth, aroma to wine, sweetness to honey, and fragrance to blossoms.

Flora teaches us to honor growing things, both inside and outside us. She is a reminder to pay attention to pleasure, to the beauty of spring, and to new life, wherever it is found.”

This card representing May delivered the message to me, that May was a continuation of the things that we’ve been working on here on this podcast and in conjunction with the Universe.

In the month of April, we had the message of being gentle with yourself from the Universe; culminating in the message to “Believe you are deserving, for that is how we see you.”

As a result of this focus from the Universe, there was a correlating focus on self-love. This focus on the relationship that we have with ourselves is continuing into May. This continuation has a slightly different spin on it, in conjunction with the energy that we will experience in the month of May.

What my spirit guides had to share was that in May, we will be focusing on the sweetness, the richness to life. Oftentimes, we are so busy attempting to improve our quality of life, to lessen the wounds that we carry, to address any pain that we might still be experiencing, to better the quality of our life; that we can lose touch and lose sight of the things that we already have to be grateful for – of those pleasures and joy.

There is also the message with this Flora card: a reminder of the process and the journey of any healing journey, any journey of self-love, that at this time not only are we stepping into spring, for those of us in the Western Hemisphere; but we are also just beginning to see the flourishing and the manifestations of all of the new learning and work that we have accomplished over the course of this podcast.

I am also reminded that we were introduced to the community of our animal family through animal totems that; they are our sisters and our brothers, our teachers and supporters. That they have magic and skills to share with us. I am reminded by my cat; who not only joined me for the final week of April’s reading, but for this one as well.

It was within that weekly reading that we not only uncovered the animal community and invited them into our lives, but you had the opportunity to meet and connect with an individual animal totem that was paired and meant specifically for you, and was a match to whatever environment or situation you had going on in your life. If you’re interested in connecting with an animal totem, there is the deep breathing exercise we did in Episode 23. Or you can find wonderful, guided meditations on YouTube.

[5:31] Deep Breathing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have planned a rather in-depth tarot reading for this coming month. So, we’re going to do a simple grounding meditation. So go ahead and find that quiet comfortable place to sit or lay down. Close your eyes. Bring yourself to an open position with your arms by your sides and the palms facing upward. Take a nice deep breath in and out.

Another strong deep breath in and a strong exhale out.

I will remind you that with each inhale, pull in this new month and the energy of May. And with each exhale really push; you want your exhales to last longer than the inhale. So, you can push all the energy that has been residing in your being, all the air in your lungs. So that with each inhale, you’re inviting that new energy.

This process is really wonderful if you want to release negativity and breathe in healing and positive energy, even energy of love or self-love. This also works by pulling in the month of May, the energy that is surrounding us and rather than it just surrounding us, it will now seep into our being; and you can adjust to the month’s energy by breathing normally, but this deep breathing really helps to invite it into your being. So, with another deep breath in and a strong exhale out.

Breathing in and out.

Now imagine a tendril of energy, it can be a string, a chain, even the root system of a tree. And imagine this tendril of energy moving from your toes into the crust of Mother Earth, down through the layers all the way to her iron crystal core. And connect yourself with Mother Earth and ground yourself into your body and into this moment. With another deep breath in and out.

One more in and out.

Next, call in your support team: your spirit guides, your spiritual, ancestral, and celestial family, those magical creatures, and your animal totems. Call them in to support you, to offer guidance, magic, skills, protection, love, anything else that they have to share with you. With another deep breath in and out.

One more in and out.

Lastly, imagine an energy shield surrounding you within the shape of an egg; as it goes from the bottom of your toes all the way to the top of your head. This white light is angelic light, your guardian angel and the Archangels provide this light to support and nurture you. At this time, call in this angelic support to provide this shield and to provide you that support and love. Invite them to be participants in your life, with another deep breath in and out.

If you wish you can add additional layers to your shield. They can be healing angelic light of Archangel Raphael: this beautiful emerald green light. It can be a shield of self-love: a nice rose quartz crystal pink. It can be a shield of protective energy from Archangel Michael: this very vibrant blue energy.

Any layer to your shield can come from an emotion, a spirit guide, or angel. A crystal, any form of energy, or intent or focus can be added to your shields to help you remain safe, protected, and surrounded by support and love. At this time, choose the layer, or layers, to your shield and breathe deeply in and out.

Take a moment to feel the connection you have grounded with Mother Earth, to feel the shields around you; with another deep breath in and out.

In and out.

This meditation can be used each morning to ground you into the new day and protect you as you move forward with your life. At any time, you can re-check, re-ground, and re-shield; to help create an environment of safety, love, positivity, and nurturance. Take another deep breath in and out.

Bring your focus away from your grounding and shielding. They will remain and bring your focus back to your body and to your environment.

Take one last deep breath in and out. Open your eyes and let us begin.

[12:22] Intro to Monthly Tarot Reading ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This will be our monthly tarot reading for the month of May 2022. For this month, I have chosen the Zodiac Spread. It combines the beauty of tarot reading with the energetic insight that comes from astrology. This is one of the larger spreads that we will do with this podcast. And so, we’re going to dive right into it and get going, and see what messages we will receive for the month of May.

[12:54] Shadow Card ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To begin, I always love to start with the bottom card of the deck: which is known as the Shadow card. This represents the overall energy for the general reading as well as a representation of what you’re currently feeling.

The card that we have is the 5 of Fire.

The particular tarot deck that I’m using this month is the Vision Quest deck by Guyon Sylvie Winter and Jo Dosé. This particular deck utilizes the elements in place of the traditional Wand, Cup, Sword, and Pentacle. So, I will translate…

The 5 of Fire is also known as the 5 of Wands. The underlying key word is Stress.

The imagery of this card shows a tumultuous sky, the clouds are dark, the sun is setting, there are purple hues. And there are five arms holding these torches. These five torches represent to me: this excess of energy.

These five hands are holding five torches even though the sun is still setting, where one torch or even two torches would be sufficient to light the way on this journey home. We have five of them.

The key word here is Stress. If at this time you are feeling stressed out, that you are over-extending your energy, a lot is going on or that

lot is going on or that a lot is being asked of you at this time; there is a reminder from the Universe in this card to trust in the support of the world.

Rather than needing to take care of it all by yourself or supplying all the light, there is still the sunset. There is still support from those around you and one torch would be sufficient. If at this time you are stressed, consider what is really needed and what is excessive. It can be an excessive amount of time spent in a particular area of your life, it can be an excessive amount of focus, energy or resources.

Where in your life is it excessive, where in your life are you overcompensating?

And can you now allow the Earth to step in, your spirit guides, the light of the sunset. And this will help you to reduce your load and to reduce your stress.

And as I’m talking about this, I’m feeling more and more tension going on in my back. So, I’d like you to take a couple deep breaths with me. Whether or not you’re feeling lots of stress, with each inhale invite the Universe and all of her inhabitants to support you: that your friends and your family, all of your other family members, spiritual, ancestral, celestial, animal, magical, even your guardian angel.

And with each exhale push that tension out, push the exhale out. And imagine that with each exhale, with that force of your breath, you’re blowing out one of the excess torches. So, we’re going to do it four times and blow out those four extra torches. So, we can get down to just one.

So, take that nice deep breath in and exhale out.

In, calling in the Universe, and out – blowing out that torch.

One more in and out.

Last one, you ready, a nice deep breath in and out.

If at any time this month you are feeling stressed, see where the excess is, see where you can pass on the responsibility or the load to the Universe – that is why they are there. And blow out that tension; blow out those extra torches and set yourself free of that tension.

[17:25] Seeker Card ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

All right, moving forward with our reading we then look at our first position: which is the Seeker, representing the individual. This card represents our state of being in the month of May.

Representing us is the Clown, card number zero, which is the Fool within traditional tarot.

As I look at this card, I see a Native American who is like most Fools are: standing on the edge of a cliff. In the distance there is a dog howling and surrounding this Fool, or this Clown, is a spirit. The spirit of who… the artwork is ambiguous. It could be a dog, a coyote, a wolf. Again, this representative of the animal community and animal totem. In Tarot, the Fool, or in this case the Clown: represents new beginnings, youth, a new cycle, as well as innocence and maybe even being naive.

Considering the energy of May, there are a lot of new things blossoming.

The springtime energy very much coming into our environment, offering new gifts, and new rewards.

[18:52] Position One: Aries ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To see how we will fare in this coming month, we move to our first zodiac position, which is the sign of Aries. Aries represents: our personal life force, our drive, sense of adventure, as well as how others perceive you.

Represented in this position, we have the 7 of Fire: Endurance, which is also known as the 7 of Wands. The imagery of this card shows us again a sunrise or a sunset. However, this time the sky is not tumultuous with black clouds, but rather is filled with hues of blue, orange, red. And the sun is really coming up through the clouds shining bright.

I read this as a message of your strength. A reminder that you have this ability of Endurance, of strength. That this new journey is offering so many wonderful new things, that it is worth putting the time and the energy to cultivate new

manifestations. There is a confirmation here, that all you need to accomplish this coming month can be accomplished.

There is a reminder because we also have that Shadow Card of the 5 of Fire, that this is not about going full steam ahead and doing it all by yourself. Instead, the 7 of Fire shows us seven wands. But they aren’t on fire: they’re smoldering. There’s that Endurance.

Rather than turning yourself to full blast, complete flame, and then flaming out before the journey is done. There’s a message here of pacing yourself: that all the energy you need to make it through the journey is there, but to use that energy wisely.

[20:51] Position Two: Taurus ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Moving on, we have position number two: which is Taurus. This zodiac sign represents: the tangible assets, your morals, ability to make money, and the ways we like to make money.

Represented in this reading, we have Vision Quest: which is the Major Arcana position #12, which in traditional tarot is known as the Hanged Man. Within this card we see a medicine man who is standing up on a cliff. This bountiful cliff has a baby tree, growing by his feet. He has his arms raised up to the sky and there is raptor, a bird of some kind, the energy silhouette within the sky.

As I’m watching the progression of these cards, I’m seeing the sun rising. As I had said the 5 of Fire had the sunset, the light was going out. With the 7 of Fire, we see half of the sun coming up

through the clouds. That sunrise just beginning to break the darkness and bring about creativity, light, creation.

With the Fool card representing the Seeker, we see a fully bright sunny day. For Vision Quest we see the sun off in the distance, and it is broken through the clouds, broken past the mountain range, and is fully visible making its journey up into the sky.

With Vision Quest representing the position of Taurus, there are two messages that I received looking at this card. The first is about new perception, going inward to reconsider our understanding. There is also a message here about new beginnings and new birth.

That while the full blossoming of abundance may not be apparent, the seedlings have taken root and they are in the position of growing. The sun is climbing up into the sky.

[23:13] Position Three: Gemini ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Within position number three, we have Gemini representing: communication, short journeys, family members, lower forms of education, and defines what makes us happy.

This position is represented by the Mother of Fire, which is also known as the Queen of Wands. We see a woman within her hut, she is adding kindling to her fire and behind her is an animal skin that has been painted telling the story of a journey.

The Mother of Fire represents a person, be that male or female, who is in a position of knowing what it is they desire. Knowing that they are worth the time and the energy. There is a message here of self-value; of pursuing what it is you desire.

Within tarot and learning the meaning of the Queen of Wands, there is an easy statement, or phrase, that explains this woman’s energy: that she knows what she wants, she knows how to get it, and she is going out and getting it.

Within the position of Gemini, defining what makes us happy, the Mother of Fire informs us of our own importance – again that reiteration that you matter.

There’s also a message here of beginning the process of communication. Right now, we’re still going inwards in this journey of the cards; that there is the smoldering of the fire within in the 7 of Fire. That Vision Quest of seeking within ourselves, that journey that will lead us to what we desire. That the Mother of Fire has come to learn what she wants, or at least wants to try, what is catching her joy and curiosity, what is triggering her passion about life at this time.

[25:24] Position Four: Cancer ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We continue the journey with position number four Cancer: representing our personal life, what goes on behind closed doors, endings, and parents.

Within this position, we have 4 of Earth: Security. The imagery shows a sacred rock circle. And within the four directions, we see a husk of corn and four bowls that have been woven. I read a message of balance, a message of abundance, as well as ceremony.

Within the Native American culture, and a lot of cultures, there is the process of bowing to and thanking each of the four directions. That each direction offers a different energy. It could also be representative of the four seasons.

Oftentimes, there is cycles and structure to our life, to provide us support. If you can imagine having summer for your whole lifetime, there would never be a moment of reprieve; that you would get to rest and recuperate, such as in wintertime. There would be no transition, as seen through fall and spring.

The four directions represented here, each being offered a bowl and a husk of corn: talk about addressing each direction of your life, your personal life, the life of family, career, your spiritual life, and your connection and relationship with all of these different directions. Within the position of Cancer, this is talking about: before taking action, considering each relationship and direction so that there is a balance.

[27:26] Position Five: Leo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Within position number five we have Leo: representing fun, entertainment, children, joy and what it brings, love affairs, hobbies, and the ability to give love.

The card representing this position is the 21st card of the Major Arcana, known as the World or in this instance: the Big Medicine Wheel. Here we see the four directions represented by a woman, the bald eagle, a white buffalo, a mountain lion, and within the four directions, within the wheel, we have a snake surrounding the planet of Earth. The imagery here: it evokes the layered-ness to life, to existence.

With it being in position number five, representing Leo, about entertainment and fun and love, hobbies: there is a message here of leading a full life.

Of not restricting yourself to a single area or a single hobby, but doing it all. Not by over exerting yourself or over planning your time, trying to cram everything in. Rather instead giving each area of your life the time it is deserving of. That you have this level of endurance, this strength, to address every area of your life in balance without overwhelming yourself.

The Big Medicine Wheel, also known as the World in tarot, also represents the ending of a cycle. It is after the World that in tarot we continue back to the beginning, to the Fool; which is our Seeker position in this reading. Again, this message of a new beginning, a new cycle. That for each of us, new things are on their way in our life and old things are coming to a close.

However, within the circle dance of Native American culture, while the dance itself is circular, energetically it is taught that rather than going around in a circle, repeating the same thing over and over; that each cycle spirals you upward, with each rotation you reach a higher level.

And while stepping onto air and raising up higher into the sky during a circle dance is not currently possible: that the representation of the circle dance, the representation of the circular nature of the Major Arcana, (going from the Fool and all the way through to the World), shows us that we repeat patterns in our life not in the exact same manner.

But if we have been participants through the first rotation, learn the lessons and the experience, during the second rotation we are at a higher vibration, a higher level. And there is a confirmation here in this reading, that while it might seem like you’re doing the same thing over again, it is at a higher level now and will reap you greater rewards because you’re at a higher vibration.

[31:03] Position Six: Virgo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Moving along with our reading, we now have position number six representing Virgo, which is: all about work, health, diet, study, being in service, job, and animals.

Within this position, we have another Major Arcana card, Medicine Woman, or in traditional tarot the High Priestess. So, let me see… we’re halfway through our reading, and we already have 1…2…3…4 Major Arcana cards.

And in tarot, the Major Arcana represent big life moments, big changes, big lessons. Where the Minor Arcana are the day-to-day things, as well as the specifics about what is changing.

We have this message going on here of big transformation. With Virgo being the work, health, diet, study, job; and we now see here the Medicine Woman, which is about intuition, health, balance, healing, about spiritual practices, and meditation, ceremony. Learning to do things in a new way; where you not only reap the benefits and abundance, but also are happy, are not overworked, or overstressed.

There is much that can be learned by looking to the animal community, to Mother Nature, to indigenous cultures: be that the Native Americans, the

Mayans, the Amazonians. Different communities that put an emphasis on balance and on connection with the natural flow of creation.

There is an idea that was shared with me: that Mother Nature never rushes, but always accomplishes what she needs to on time. And if you think about it coming into the month of May, we have new flowers blossoming. That there are cycles to Mother Nature. Where the seed becomes a sprout, blossoms into a flower, and over time then withers and dies, and repeats the cycle.

Mother Nature does not rush. She does not overexert herself, over schedule herself, and yet come the end of spring time and the end of summer – everything that she needed to accomplish was accomplished.

The message that I’m receiving looking at this spread: is talking about life. And that’s partly why I was so drawn to the Zodiac Spread, because it looks at the different areas of our life and talks about them. And here I’m seeing a message about continuing life, but doing it at this new level that does not support stress, or over exertion, but rather instead utilizes the support of a community; utilizes balance, ceremony, meditation. Doing things in a way that is in alignment with the flow of creation.

[34:37] Position Seven: Libra ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Which on that note, we then have position number seven which is Libra: and harmony, partnerships, legalities, and known enemies.

For this position we have number five of the Major Arcana, traditionally known as the Hierophant, and in this deck known as the Shaman. Again, another Major Arcana card.

Within this position, representing harmony and any enemies, we have a Shaman. A man who is standing in front of a totem pole; there is a white wolf and a black raven.

The message I received here, is an acknowledgement of connecting with the outside world. That even as we work to develop a more balanced and holistic manner of living, that we still go out into the world and meet other people; who are making their own choices with their own freewill, and sometimes that can create tension or even potentially conflict.

And within the position of Libra, talking about harmony as well as known enemies, we have the Shaman. The Shaman is a highly misunderstood individual. Partly because what the Shaman can do: accessing other dimensions, pulling in energy, healing people, it was a skill, a trait. That even his fellow tribes’ men and women, they appreciated what he could do, but didn’t fully comprehend it. A Shaman has a lot of techniques and skills that even surpass what is commonly known today.

Recently, I’ve been reading about other dimensions, and the different energies and beings that live in these other dimensions: such as the Pleiadians or Syrians. And they were talking about how the Shamans had the ability to bring their energy and their selves to that vibration,
