Your Higher Self

Tags: higher soul human

This past year I have stretched beyond the limits I knew. I did this in a number of ways, in various areas of my life, and I’m still pushing past the boundaries of my understanding and knowledge.

One such area was my Soul. I have always known that I was a soul in a human body. But that didn’t mean I knew my soul. Who I was before being, “Rae” and who I was underneath it all.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the Akashic records, and in the process I took the opportunity to expand my own knowledge. In the course of researching I not only solidified what I knew, but I came across a new healer. As a result, I got a past life reading.

What came of this reading was monumental. Not only did I uncover another two lifetimes, but I learned some things about our Higher Selves.

Higher Self: “The soul/divine/center of who we are.”

What I Discovered:

The lifetime that Stasha Eriksen uncovered, was of a woman who lived during Rome’s Empire, in Britannia during its rebellion. Through the course of these past two weeks I have researched the time period and what is known of my lifetime.

During the course of my research a patter began to emerge. When I compared what I know of myself, my memories and knowledge of past lives, and this new past lifetime, I uncovered my Higher Self.

No matter the time period, the gender, the country, or other influencing factors, there were certain personality characteristics that remained the same. Because of my epiphany, I have been researching people’s understanding of the Higher Self and want to share what I’ve found.

What is the Higher Self?

Through my research I have found two answers to who our Higher Self is. For this reason, I am going to share what I found, and leave it to you, to decide which answer resonates most with you.

Answer One:

The first explanation of our Higher Self I found, was rooted in a Divine faith. For those who believe in Spirit (our creator) they defined our High Self as that spark we carry within us, which is a part of the Creator.

The example I found on Luna & Sol’s website was that of an ocean. This great big ocean represents the start of all things. From this ocean, rivers snaked across the land. Each river was its own being, but at its heart it was part of the ocean.

The form may change, as the river evaporates and then turns to rain, but at its heart, the identity is the same. This answer to what is our Higher Self, connects with many religions as well as some beliefs regarding reincarnation.

There are some who believe that when we die, although we are reborn, we first return to the source of all things. Then we are re-born, a different grouping of life than before.

Answer Two:

The second most common answer I found to who our High Self was, was our soul. While we are created by our Creator- Spirit, our Higher Self represents the components of who we are that emerge in each lifetime we live.

We are born with fixed personality characteristics (energy present at birth- Astrology, Numerology & our soul) and through the course of our life learn other characteristics. In this way, we can be in a place to experience certain life lessons and situations that we could not otherwise have.

But no matter where you are, or who you are, your soul is that true form of who you are, that emerges in one way or another, in each life you incarnate into.

Putting the Two Together:

While both of these answers offer some insight, I don’t believe either to be completely correct. For that reason, I sat with this knowledge, talked with my spirit guides, did some tarot spreads, and this is another answer as to who our Higher Self is.

In combining these two understandings, we honor what I believe to be a complex topic. Our soul.

In my experience, we are deeper and more complex than just a spark or just a personality. This is a soul we are talking about.

For this reason, here’s how I currently understand, what it means, when we talk about our Higher Self.

In the movie, Rise of the Guardians, Jack Frost has been the newly appointed guardian. Wanting to know why, Santa asks him what his center is. When Jack Frost doesn’t know, Santa shares with him a stack of nestled dolls.

The outer shell shows the tough exterior the world sees, but as Jack unstacks the dolls, he digs deeper and deeper into who Santa is. At his center, a soul full of wonder.

Check out the clip: Rise of The Guardians, Santa’s Center.

I love this analogy for our human soul, because it demonstrates that our Higher Selves are just as deep and complicated. At our center, the divine spark that birthed us.

As time has progressed, we have added layers to the identity of our soul. Each lifetime, and time spent between each lifetime, has touched us. New lessons have been learned and new experiences have been had.

For this reason, I have come to know my Higher Self, as my soul. A divine spark, spiritual gifts, lessons, knowledge, wisdom, personality, and a core to my being, that no matter the age or form, shines through.

Benefits of Connecting with Your Higher Self:

From this understanding of our Higher Selves, I have one more component that I need to address, and that’s where our soul is. I was taught that when we reincarnate, our human bodies can only hold a portion of our soul.

Which makes sense, since we are such deep beings. But as a result, we live our lives with only a facet of our soul present. The rest, exists higher up- thus our “Higher Selves.”

Due to this, we don’t always have access to our spiritual gifts or other pieces of knowledge. This is important for us as humans, because it allows us to have lifetimes with experiences that we couldn’t have with our entire soul present. We wouldn’t need to learn reading and math again, and we would experience life in a completely different way.

But if we don’t connect with our soul at all and allow our human ego to block us from our truest identity, we can live our lives in despair. Deep down, we know that such a state isn’t right. As a result, ego can lead us down a path of depression, aggression, loneliness, and all the other kinds of pain.

In choosing to connect with our soul, (who we are deep down) we still are limited by our human bodies, so we still get to experience the life we’ve planned (soul contract) but we can now do it with joy.

Connecting with Your Higher Self:

Since I desire to live a life of joy, rather than perpetual pain, I have taken steps over the years to connect with myself. Unknowingly, my Higher Self. While there are many different tools and techniques you can use, here’s a few to get you started.

  • The Akashic Records- When we access information and even memories of our past lives, we can see patterns emerge. Who we were then, and who we are now, has similar aspects. These similarities are our pure soul peeking through.
  • Tarot/Oracle- Either form of divination helps us to shed light onto people and situations. It also acts as a wonderful tool for speaking with your Spirit Guides and Higher Self.
  • Shadow Work- The power of our ego and society has led us to shun part of who we are. In delving into the shadows, where you’re rejected parts hide, you can not only shed light onto who you are, but heal deep wounds and live a freer life.
  • Develop a relationship with yourself- In doing so, not only do we learn what brings us happiness, aiding us on our Path of Happiness, but we also develop a connection with our soul.
  • Chakra work- As the world changes, we as humans are now able to access chakras that we couldn’t before. One of these upper chakras is the Soul Star Chakra, where our Higher Self resides.

Final Thoughts:

Who we are, how things work, and comprehending the complexity to life leads us on a journey. As you’ve seen within this post, there is a process to healing and discovering what you believe.

Often times when I write, I have spent years considering, researching, and finding what rings true for me. But this time, I wanted to share with you, where I was on my journey.

My work with my Higher Self has only recently started on a conscious level. While I have gathered my research, there is still more to do. I will sit with what I know. Ask questions. Do some more research. Then after it all, there will come a day, when I can say, “This is what I believe…” with absolute certainty.

No matter where you are on your journey, honor it. There is no rush. Honor the importance of your faith (religious or otherwise). Give it time to blossom and in the end, you’ll see your beautiful flower of truth.

Challenge:

This week take some time to look inwards. If you aren’t ready to actively seek out your Higher Self, don’t. But do take some time to see where you sit. What is it you believe?
