Georgia Foster Care
Wellroot awarded $10,000 grant from The Jackson EMC Foundation to help fund the recruitment, training and retention of more foster parents in the 10-county region served by Jackson EMC.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 19, 2019
Gainesville, Ga. – The Jackson Emc Foundation presented Wellroot’s Gainesville Regional Office a $10,000 grant, funded by the contributions of the cooperative’s members. The 10-county region served by Jackson EMC lacks 989 beds (foster home placements) to fulfill the need of children in the foster care system. The grant will enable Wellroot to recruit, train and approve new foster homes in the 10 counties served by Jackson EMC (Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Franklin, Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison and Oglethorpe), as well as retain and support existing Wellroot foster families in the region.
Wellroot’s recruitment and retention work includes regionally-based foster care information meetings, state-mandated IMPACT training for prospective foster parents, ongoing targeted trainings for current foster parents wanting to expand their knowledge and expertise and programmatic offerings for families geared toward building community among biological children and their siblings in care. Wellroot also partners with community and church members to provide wrap-around support to foster families through our Nurturing Community model.
