Remembering Valerie Harper 1939 - 2019

The actress, who died Friday at age 80, will always be fondly remembered for her role as Rhoda Morgenstern on the CBS sitcom, The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-74), and its spin-off, Rhoda (1974-78), for which she won three Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe. Below I've selected some videos to celebrate her life and career.

Two episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show - "Today I am a Ma'am" (which aired September 26, 1970, and featured Harper's first husband, Richard Schaal) and "Rhoda the Beautiful" (which aired October 21, 1972)




On April 22, 1971, Harper won her first Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.



On February 17, 1973, Harper was a guest on The Carol Burnett Show.




Two episodes of Rhoda - "Joe" with its original opening scene (which aired September 9, 1974) and "Rhoda's Wedding" (which aired October 28, 1974)





On May 19, 1975, Harper won her fourth Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.



On November 16, 1976, Harper and Lucille Ball were guests on Dinah Shore's talk show (Harper was a chorus member in Ball's 1960 Broadway musical, Wildcat).



On January 2, 1977, Harper was the guest star on The Muppet Show.



On March 8, 1979, Harper was a guest on the ABC special, John Denver and the Ladies, which also featured Cheryl Ladd, Cheryl Tiegs, Tina Turner and Erma Bombeck.



Harper starred in the 1980 film, The Last Married Couple in America, with George Segal and Natalie Wood.



On January 8, 1982, Harper was the guest star on ABC's Fridays.



On November 21, 1984, Harper was reunited with her Rhoda co-stars, Julie Kavner and Nancy Walker, on Hour Magazine.



Harper was the star of the NBC sitcom, Valerie, for two seasons (1986-87) before she was fired following contractual disputes. Below is a promo for the show that aired in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on March 23, 1986.




On December 26, 1986, Harper, Bea Arthur and Pam Dawber performed a musical tribute to honoree Lucille Ball on The Kennedy Center Honors.



On February 13, 1990, Harper made her only appearance as a guest on Late Night with David Letterman.



On September 27, 1990, Harper was a guest on The Joan Rivers Show.



Harper starred in the 1995 CBS sitcom, The Office.



In May 1996, Harper was reunited with her Rhoda co-stars, David Groh and Harold Gould, on Sally Jessy Raphael's talk show.





On September 12, 1999, Harper appeared in an episode of HBO's Sex and the City.



On February 3, 2000, Harper and Mary Tyler Moore promoted their ABC movie, Mary and Rhoda, on The Rosie O'Donnell Show.




On September 4, 2013, Harper was reunited with her Mary Tyler Moore Show co-stars, Betty White, Georgia Engel, Cloris Leachman and Mary Tyler Moore, on an episode of Hot in Cleveland.
