What's It All About, Deep Dish?

Well, I'll tell you what it's all about. It's about me--Marc Harshbarger, the author of two novels (so far). I live in Chicago in a very old house with my partner and our two spoiled fat cats, Shubert and Mr. Grant. We live on a nice street with fabulous neighbors, and life is good.

This blog is also about my books (of course). Gotta promote them any which way I can (isn't that the title of a Clint Eastwood movie starring the divine Ruth Gordon? I think it is--she hangs out with an orangutan in it and, no, I've never watched this film even though it seems like I know entirely too much about it). My first novel, Deep Dish, came out last year. Here's what it's about:

This groovy gay soap opera turns back the clock to 1975 as it tells the swinging saga of the Davenport and Haze families, who fall in and out of love and lust in one cliffhanging chapter after another. With each slice of Deep Dish that you devour, you will laugh and cry along with platonic friends and passionate lovers, sexy studs and lovely lesbians, disco divas and show tune enthusiasts, and a few fabulous drag queens as they all search for love and happiness in a crazy world.

And so far Deep Dish has received some very nice reviews:

"Deep Dish takes readers on a rollicking, dizzying, and hilarious trip back in time to Chicago's north shore suburbs in the 1970s. Harshbarger's witty, campy, and giddy soap opera is a fast, fun read and the debut of a remarkable new talent." - Rick R. Reed, author of Orientation and IM

"Deep Dish is a delightfully tawdry sex farce that pays tribute to the 1980s nighttime soap era . . . the result, like most serialized dramas, is highly addictive." - Chris Verleger, Rainbow Reviews

"I totally LOVED this book! Every gay man should read it!" - Geoffrey Knight, author of Fathom's Five: The Cross of Sins

"A serial cliffhanger with more twists than Charo . . ." - Greg Lilly, author of Devil's Bridge

"Smart, sexy, silly and sarcastic . . ." - Arthur Wooten, author of On Picking Fruit

"A great read that is loads of fun . . ." - Amos Lassen, Literary Pride

The sequel, Deeper Dish, will soon be available on Amazon, and once it is, I will blog all about it.

And, finally, this blog is about what I like: my favorite movies (screwball comedies/cult faves/bad movies we all love), television shows (soap operas, of course/classic sitcoms), music (1958-1986 with an occasional contemporary tune), books (queer literature/Hollywood bios), theater, actors and actresses, my own writing and political views (Democrat), gorgeous guys, and all things queer and kitschy. So if you share my tastes in any of these topics, then perhaps you might enjoy dropping by here occasionally to check out the Dish.

That's it. My first blog is finished. I'm off and running.
