In May 1996, I was lucky enough to see actress Kaye Ballard perform at Chicago's Toulouse Cognac Bar, and she put on a fun show that I still fondly remember.

The actress and singer, who died Monday at age 93, starred opposite Eve Arden in the 1967-69 NBC sitcom, The Mothers-in-Law. Other television credits include the CBS sitcom, The Doris Day Show (1970-72), and the syndicated sitcom, What a Dummy (1990-91). She also appeared in such films as The Girl Most Likely (1958), A House Is Not a Home (1964), Which Way to the Front? (1970), The Ritz (1976), Freaky Friday (1976) and Falling in Love Again (1980). And her Broadway credits include Top Banana (1952), The Golden Apple (1954), Carnival! (1961), The Beast in Me (1963), Molly (1973) and The Pirates of Penzance (1981). She also appeared in the 2001 national tour of The Full Monty.

She performed on the NBC special, The Steve Allen Hour, on November 9, 1954.



On March 31, 1957, she played stepsister Portia in the live CBS broadcast of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, which also starred Julie Andrews and Alice Ghostley.



She made a guest appearance on the ABC sitcom, The Patty Duke Show, on March 4, 1964.



She and Eve Arden starred in NBC's The Mothers-in-Law for two seasons (1967-69).





She and Bernie Kopell played Italian restaurant owners Angie and Louie Pallucci on The Doris Day Show for two seasons (1970-72).



She was a guest on The Carol Burnett Show on February 16, 1972.



She appeared on The Muppet Show on May 7, 1977.



In 1978, she starred in her own TV special, Hello, Kaye, with Burt Reynolds, Phyllis Diller and Rip Taylor, but it never aired.




In 1980, she and her longtime accompanist Arthur Siegel appeared on The Merv Griffin Show.



She performed with Donna McKechnie and Roberta Peters on Musical Comedy Tonight III, which aired on PBS's Great Performances on November 22, 1985.



She was a guest on the Chicago talk show, The Lee Phillip Show, in 1986.



On December 20, 2006, she discussed her memoir, How I Lost 10 Pounds in 53 Years, with Rosie O'Donnell and Joy Behar on ABC's The View.
