67) Sinatra - November 8 and 10, 1992 on CBS
Developed and produced by Frank's daughter Tina Sinatra and approved by Frank himself, this Golden Globe winner for Best Miniseries stars Philip Casnoff (as Sinatra), Olympia Dukakis, Gina Gershon and Marcia Gay Harden (as Ava Gardner).




66) A Woman of Independent Means - February 19-22, 1995 on NBC
Based on Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey's 1979 novel, this miniseries stars Sally Field (who received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her performance), Charles Durning, Tony Goldwyn and John Slattery.



65) Mistral's Daughter - September 24-26, 1984 on CBS
Based on Judith Krantz's 1982 novel, this miniseries stars Stefanie Powers, Lee Remick, Stacy Keach, Robert Urich, Timothy Dalton, Joanna Lumley and Kristin Scott Thomas (in her American TV debut).





64) Princess Daisy - November 6-7, 1983 on NBC
Based on Judith Krantz's 1980 novel, this miniseries stars Merete Van Kamp, Lindsay Wagner, Stacy Keach, Claudia Cardinale, Robert Urich, Paul Michael Glaser, Rupert Everett, and Ringo Starr and his wife, Barbara Bach.



63) When We Rise - February 27 - March 3, 2017 on ABC
Created by Dustin Lance Black and based on the memoirs of LGBT activist Cleve Jones, this history of the modern gay rights movement stars Guy Pearce, Rachel Griffiths, Mary-Louise Parker, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O'Donnell, David Hyde Pierce, T.R. Knight and Charlie Carver.




62) Olive Kitteridge - November 2-3, 2014 on HBO
Based on Elizabeth Strout's 2008 novel, this Emmy winner for Outstanding Limited Series stars Frances McDormand (who won an Emmy for her performance as Olive), Richard Jenkins (who won an Emmy), Zoe Kazan, Rosemarie DeWitt, John Gallagher Jr., Ann Dowd, Jesse Plemons and Bill Murray (who won an Emmy).




61) Pride and Prejudice - January 14-16, 1995 on A&E
Adapted from Jane Austen's 1813 novel, this Emmy-nominated British miniseries stars Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.



60) Sidney Sheldon's If Tomorrow Comes - March 16-18, 1986 on CBS
Based on Sheldon's 1985 novel, this miniseries stars Madolyn Smith, Tom Berenger, David Keith, Jack Weston, Richard Kiley and Liam Neeson.





59) Deceptions - May 26 and 27, 1985 on NBC
Based on Judith Michael's 1982 novel, this miniseries stars Stefanie Powers as twin sisters who trade lives for one week. The cast also included Barry Bostwick, Brenda Vaccaro and Gina Lollobrigida.




58) Captains and the Kings - September 30 - November 25, 1976 on NBC
Taylor Caldwell's 1972 book was the first of four novels dramatized on NBC Best Sellers during the 1976-77 season. This eight-part miniseries stars Richard Jordan (who won a Golden Globe for his performance), Patty Duke (who won an Emmy Award), Blair Brown, Perry King, Jane Seymour (who received an Emmy nomination), Charles Durning (who received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations), Barbara Parkins, Henry Fonda, Celeste Holm, Ray Bolger, Burl Ives, Ann Sothern and Beverly D'Angelo (in her television debut).



57) James A. Michener's Space - April 14-18, 1985 on CBS
Based on Michener's 1982 novel, this Emmy nominee for Outstanding Miniseries stars James Garner, Beau Bridges, Blair Brown, Bruce Dern, Harry Hamlin, Michael York, David Dukes and Susan Anspach.




56) Jacqueline Susann's Valley of the Dolls - October 19-20, 1981 on CBS
This updated remake of the 1967 film (based on Susann's 1966 novel) stars Catherine Hicks, Lisa Hartman, Veronica Hamel, David Birney, Jean Simmons, James Coburn, Gary Collins, Bert Convy, Britt Ekland and Carol Lawrence. It was followed by a 1984 syndicated soap opera starring Sally Kirkland.




55) The Dream Merchants - May 1980 in syndication
Based on Harold Robbins' 1949 novel, this miniseries stars Mark Harmon, Morgan Fairchild, Brianne Leary, Eve Arden, Kaye Ballard, Morgan Brittany, Red Buttons, Howard Duff, Robert Goulet, David Groh, Carolyn Jones and Fernando Lamas.



54) Kennedy - November 20-22, 1983 on NBC
This Golden Globe nominee for Best Miniseries stars Martin Sheen as President John F. Kennedy, Blair Brown as Jacqueline Kennedy, and John Shea as Robert F. Kennedy.




53) Stephen King's The Stand - May 8-12, 1994 on ABC
Based on King's 1978 novel, this horror miniseries stars Gary Sinise, Miguel Ferrer, Rob Lowe, Ruby Dee, Laura San Giacomo, Molly Ringwald - and in small, uncredited roles - Kathy Bates and Ed Harris.




52) Family Pictures - March 21-22, 1993 on ABC
Based on Sue Miller's 1990 novel, this miniseries stars Anjelica Huston (who received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance), Sam Neill, Kyra Sedgwick and Dermot Mulroney.



51) Loose Change - February 26-28, 1978 on NBC
Based on Sara Davidson's 1977 autobiographical novel about three women coming of age in the 1960s, this miniseries stars Season Hubley, Cristina Raines, Laurie Heineman, Guy Boyd, John Getz, Gregg Henry, Ben Masters and June Lockhart. It was renamed Those Restless Years when NBC repeated it in July 1978.



50) Beggarman, Thief - November 26-27, 1979, on NBC
Based on Irwin Shaw's 1977 novel (which was a sequel to his 1970 novel, Rich Man, Poor Man), this miniseries stars Jean Simmons, Glenn Ford, Lynn Redgrave, Andrew Stevens, Tovah Feldshuh, Anne Francis and Bo Hopkins.




49) Bare Essence - October 4-5, 1982 on CBS
Based on Meredith Rich's 1980 novel, this miniseries about the perfume industry stars Genie Francis (as Tyger Hayes), Linda Evans, Donna Mills, Lee Grant and Bruce Boxleitner. It was followed by a 1983 NBC series starring Francis, Jennifer O'Neill, Jessica Walte and Ian McShane.




48) Beulah Land - October 7-9, 1980 on NBC
Based on Lonnie Coleman's novels, Beulah Land (1973) and Look Away, Beulah Land (1977), this miniseries stars Lesley Ann Warren, Michael Sarrazin, Eddie Albert, Hope Lange, Don Johnson and Meredith Baxter.



47) Moviola: A Hollywood Saga - May 18-20, 1980 on NBC
Based on Garson Kanin's 1979 novel, this miniseries aired in three parts - This Year's Blonde starring Constance Forslund as Marilyn Monroe, The Scarlett O'Hara War starring Tony Curtis (as David O. Selznick), Sharon Gless (as Carole Lombard), Carrie Nye (as Tallulah Bankhead), Edward Winter (as Clark Gable) and Morgan Brittany (as Vivien Leigh), and The Silent Lovers starring Kristina Wayborn (as Greta Garbo), Barry Bostwick (as John Gilbert) and Mackenzie Phillips (as Lillian Gish).




46) Washington: Behind Closed Doors - September 6-11, 1977 on ABC
Based on John Ehrlichman's 1976 post-Watergate novel, The Company, this miniseries stars Cliff Robertson, Jason Robards (who received an Emmy nomination for his performance), Stefanie Powers, Robert Vaughn (who won an Emmy Award), Andy Griffith, David Selby and Lara Parker.




45) Wild Palms - May 16-20, 1993 on ABC
Based on Bruce Wagner's 1990 comic strip that he wrote for Details magazine, this sci-fi miniseries set in 2007 stars James Belushi, Dana Delany, Ben Savage, Robert Loggia, Angie Dickinson, Kim Cattrall, Bebe Neuwirth and Robert Morse. Oliver Stone was an executive producer.




44) Chiefs - November 13-16, 1983 on CBS
Based upon Stuart Woods' 1981 novel, this miniseries stars Charlton Heston, Keith Carradine (who received an Emmy nomination for his performance), Wayne Rogers, Stephen Collins, Brad Davis, Billy Dee Williams, Danny Glover, Tess Harper, Victoria Tennant and John Goodman. It was followed by a 1992 NBC sequel, Grass Roots (based on Woods's 1989 novel), starring Corbin Bernsen and Mel Harris.




43) V - May 1-2, 1983 on NBC
This sci-fi miniseries stars Marc Singer, Jane Badler, Faye Grant and Robert Englund. It was followed by a 1984 miniseries sequel, V: The Final Battle, and a 1984-85 NBC series (with the same cast). V was remade as a 2009-11 ABC series (starring Elizabeth Mitchell and Scott Wolf), and a new feature film, V The Movie, is in the works.





42) Lonesome Dove - February 5-8, 1989 on CBS
Based on Larry McMurtry's 1985 novel, this Golden Globe winner for Best Miniseries stars Robert Duvall (who won a Golden Globe for his performance), Tommy Lee Jones, Danny Glover, Diane Lane, Robert Urich, Ricky Schroder, Anjelica Huston, Glenne Headly and Steve Buscemi. It was followed by four miniseries sequels/prequels - Return to Lonesome Dove (1993 on CBS), Larry McMurtry's Streets of Laredo (1995 on CBS), Dead Man's Walk (1996 on ABC) and Comanche Moon (2008 on CBS) - as well as a 1994-96 syndicated TV series, Lonesome Dove: The Series.



41) Stephen King's The Shining - April 27 - May 1, 1997 on ABC
Unhappy with director Stanley Kubrick's 1980 film of his 1977 novel, King adapted the book himself for this Emmy nominee for Outstanding Miniseries. The cast includes Steven Weber, Rebecca De Mornay, Courtland Mead, Melvin Van Peebles, Pat Hingle and Elliott Gould.




40) The Moneychangers - December 4-5, 12 & 19, 1976 on NBC
Based on Arthur Hailey's 1975 novel, this miniseries stars Kirk Douglas, Christopher Plummer, Susan Flannery, Anne Baxter, Joan Collins, Lorne Greene and Helen Hayes.




39) Harold Robbins' 79 Park Avenue - October 16-18, 1977 on NBC
Based on Robbins' 1955 novel, this miniseries starrs Lesley Ann Warren (who won a Golden Globe for her performance), Marc Singer, David Dukes, Polly Bergen, Raymond Burr and Veronica Hamel.




38) Wheels - May 7-15, 1978 on NBC
Based on Arthur Hailey's 1971 novel about the auto industry, this 10-hour miniseries stars Rock Hudson, Lee Remick (who received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her performance), Blair Brown, John Beck, Jessica Walter, Howard McGillin and Marj Dusay.




37) Pearl - November 16-19, 1978 on ABC
This miniseries about events leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor stars Dennis Weaver, Robert Wagner, Angie Dickinson, Brian Dennehy, Lesley Ann Warren, Tiana Alexandra, Gregg Henry, Max Gail, Marion Ross, Audra Lindley, Katherine Helmond, Adam Arkin and Mary Crosby.




36) Blood & Orchids - February 23-24, 1986 on CBS
Based on Norman Katkov's 1983 novel, this miniseries stars Kris Kristofferson, Jane Alexander, Sean Young, William Russ and Madeleine Stowe.



35) Nutcracker: Money, Madness and Murder - March 22-24, 1987 on NBC
Based on Shana Alexander's 1985 book about New York socialite Frances Schreuder, this Emmy nominee for Outstanding Miniseries stars Lee Remick, John Glover and Elizabeth Wilson (who all received Emmy nominations for their performances) as well as Tate Donovan, Linda Kelsey and Inga Swenson. CBS also filmed a 1987 miniseries about Schreuder, At Mother's Request, starring Stefanie Powers, but it received no Emmy nominations.
