1) Groovy Gal: Ann Wedgeworth
The actress, who died Thursday at age 83, was best known for her TV roles as Lahoma Vane Lucas on the daytime soap operas, Another World (1967-70), and its spinoff, Somerset (1970-73), as promiscuous neighbor Lana Shields on the ABC sitcom, Three's Company (1979), as Bootsie Westchester on the CBS sitcom, Filthy Rich (1982-83), and as Merleen Elldridge on the CBS sitcom, Evening Shade (1990-94). Other television credits include The Edge of Night (1966-67) and Roseanne (as Dan's mother in a 1989 episode).

Her film credits include Scarecrow (1973), Bang the Drum Slowly (1973), Law and Disorder (1974), Dragonfly (aka One Summer Love) (1976), Thieves (1977), Citizens Band (aka Handle with Care) (1977), No Small Affair (1984), My Science Project (1985), Sweet Dreams (1985), The Men's Club (1986), A Tiger's Tale (1987), Made in Heaven (1987), Far North (1988), Miss Firecracker (1989), Steel Magnolias (1989), Hard Promises (1992), Love and a .45 (1994) and The Whole Wide World (1996).

Ms. Wedgeworth won the 1978 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for Neil Simon's Chapter Two. And she received a 1986 Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play for Sam Shepard's A Lie of the Mind. She was also a childhood friend and high school classmate of actress Jayne Mansfield, and she was married to actor Rip Torn from 1955 to 1961.
