10 Groovy Things to Do in July starring Steve Grand and Well-Strung


Since there are so many groovy plays, musicals, concerts and events, this is my monthly list to help promote a few of them (click on a title for more information or to purchase tickets):

1) Steve Grand
July 5 - August 31 at The Art House in Provincetown
With over 10 million views on YouTube and a #3 Album on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart, singer/songwriter Steve Grand returns to Provincetown this summer.



2) 5 to 9
July 6 - September 9 at The Art House in Provincetown
Varla Jean Merman, Ryan Landry and Peaches Christ star in Landry's hilarious parody of the 1980 movie, 9 to 5, set in our even more absurd Oval Office.



3) Broadway Barks
July 8 in NYC's Shubert Alley
Founded by Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters, this star-studded dog and cat adoption event benefiting New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies returns for a 19th year with co-hosts Peters and her Mozart in the Jungle co-star, Malcolm McDowell. Broadway special guests scheduled to appear at this free event include Jenn Colella, Corey Cott, Gavin Creel, Christine Ebersole, Janeane Garofalo, Jackie Hoffman, Andy Karl, Laurie Metcalf, Bebe Neuwirth, Laura Osnes, David Hyde Pierce, Douglas Sills and many others.



4) Leslie Jordan EXPOSED
July 8 & 9 at Provincetown's Crown & Anchor
Don't miss this new show from the Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian (Will & Grace, Sordid Lives, American Horror Story).



5) Encores! Off-Center Assassins
July 12 - 15 at NYC's City Center
A carnival ride through the history of political violence, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s 1990 musical looks right into the heart of American anger, providing sensational showstoppers for a gallery of U.S. presidential assassins ranging from John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald to Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme. The cast includes Damian Baldet, Steven Boyer, Alex Brightman, Victoria Clark, John Ellison Conlee, Clifton Duncan, Andrew Durand, Shuler Hensley, Ethan Lipton, Hudson Loverro, Erin Markey, Steven Pasquale, Cory Michael Smith, Pearl Sun and Danny Wolohan.



6) FAME 35th Anniversary Reunion Concert
July 13 at The Troubadour in West Hollywood
In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the 1982-87 musical TV series, Fame, the cast will reunite for a one-night-only benefit concert for The Actors Fund. Scheduled to appear are Debbie Allen ("Lydia Grant"), Jesse Borrego ("Jesse Valesquez"), Cynthia Gibb ("Holly Laird"), Erica Gimpel ("Coco Hernandez"), Billy Hufsey ("Christopher Donlon"), Carlo Imperato ("Danny Amatullo"), Valerie Landsburg ("Doris Schwartz"), Lee Curreri ("Bruno Martelli") and P.R. Paul ("Montgomery MacNeil").



7) Sondheim on Sondheim
July 23 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles
This benefit performance will features Sarah Uriarte Berry, Phillip Boykin, Lewis Cleale, Carmen Cusack, Claybourne Elder, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jonathan Groff, Ruthie Ann Miles, Matthew Morrison, Solea Pfeiffer and Vanessa Williams (who starred in the 2010 Broadway production). The production benefits the LA Phil's flagship program, Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), and other LA Phil educational initiatives.



8) Well-Strung
July 23 - 27 at The Art House in Provincetown
The critically acclaimed singing string quartet returns to Provincetown for five shows only.



9) Liz Callaway: The Beat Goes On
July 25, 28, 29 & September 10 at NYC's Feinstein's/54 Below
Broadway favorite Liz Callaway (Merrily We Roll Along, Baby, Cats, Miss Saigon) returns to Feinstein’s/54 Below with an evening of music from the 1960s. Featuring pop hits of the era and music from Broadway and the movies, the show also includes songs from her 2001 album, The Beat Goes On.



10) Mamma Mia!
July 28 - 30 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles
The Bowl’s annual staged musical visits the 2001 international phenomenon about a young woman’s plot to uncover the identity of her father during her wedding on a Greek island. The cast includes Corbin Bleu (as Sky), Dove Cameron (as Sophie), Jaime Camil (as Sam), Lea DeLaria (as Rosie) and Jennifer Nettles (as Donna).
