As yet another year comes to an end, it's time once again to sit back and reflect upon the best and the worst of the last 12 months. And then we make our lists.

So this is the first in a series of what I enjoyed in 2016, beginning with books. I will also share my "Grooviest" selections in television, theater, music, comedy, dance and movies as well as the results of The 6th Annual Groovy Awards honoring the best web series of the year.

101) The Princess Diarist (2016) by Carrie Fisher
The actress, who sadly left us on December 27, shares her intimate, hilarious and revealing recollection of what happened behind the scenes on the set of the first Star Wars movie.

102) Seinfeldia: How a Show About Nothing Changed Everything (2016) by Jennifer Keishin Armstrong
Here is the hilarious behind-the-scenes story of two guys (Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld) who went out for coffee and dreamed up "a silly little sitcom" called Seinfeld.


103) Last Girl Before Freeway: The Life, Loves, Losses, and Liberation of Joan Rivers (2016) by Leslie Bennetts
This biography of the late comedian has been described as "fascinating" (Entertainment Weekly), "deliciously dishy" (Boston Globe) and "a terrific read from start to finish" (TV and radio host Larry King).


104) TV (The Book): Two Experts Pick the Greatest American Shows of All Time (2016) by Alan Sepinwall and Matt Zoller Seitz
The authors rank the 100 greatest scripted shows in American TV history, which I found interesting to read - but my own list would include The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd, Designing Women, Knots Landing and The Walking Dead.


105) In Such Good Company: Eleven Years of Laughter, Mayhem, and Fun in the Sandbox (2016) by Carol Burnett
The comedy legend tells the hilarious behind-the-scenes story of her 1967-78 variety series, The Carol Burnett Show.


106) Then and Now: A Memoir (2016) by Barbara Cook (with Tom Santopietro)
The Tony Award-winning Broadway legend (The Music Man, She Loves Me) tells her story.


107) The Swans of Fifth Avenue (2016) by Melanie Benjamin
This novel about the scandalous and headline-making friendship between literary legend Truman Capote and peerless socialite Babe Paley is "a catty, juicy read that’s like a three-martini lunch" (USA Today).


108) The Fran Lebowitz Reader (1994) by Fran Lebowitz
This book really should count for two as it brings together in one volume Lebowitz's two bestselling collections of comedic essays - Metropolitan Life (1978) and Social Studies (1981).
