Chef Mickey’s Breakfast at the Contemporary

One of the most sought after dining reservations in all of Walt Disney World is Chef Mickey’s. Both breakfast and dinner reservations are sold out at the 60 day mark. However, is it really worth all the hype? Is it the best Meal in all of WDW?

Guests from all over the world want to dine with the fab 5 (Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, and Goofy) but can you do it somewhere else? Am I playing the hefty price for the characters or the food? Is it really worth the time and effort to get to?

We will answer those questions and more down below. We will also give you our honest opinion on the food and the overall experience. Just a little note, a breakfast buffet is my favorite meal at Disney.

Food

If you are visiting Chef Mickey’s for breakfast you won’t be disappointed by the selection of food available. They have just about everything you could want. Things like Mickey waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit and more.

The one thing that they are missing is an omelet station. At this price there should be an omelet station. Minnie’s beach bash at Cape May Cafe at Disney’s Beach Club Resort has an omelet station and it is much cheaper than a breakfast at Chef Mickey’s.

Not having an omelet station here really stinks. There is nothing better than having a nice omelet with some fresh Mickey waffles.

All the food I tried was very good. The waffles were nice and soft. The sausage was golden brown. Even the bacon you could find both “soft” and crispy varieties

Everything was cooked well and was delicious. For years, Chef Mickey’s was none to have subpar food. However, today and my last couple of visits the food was amazing.

I really had no complaints at all about any of the food. There was a great selection to choose from. You won’t be disappointed if you are a fan of breakfast buffets.

Below you will see a list of items you will typically find on the buffet lines:

Ham

Mini Pancakes

French Toast Sticks

Potato-Cheese Casserole

Tater Tots

Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

Sliced Beef

Mickey Waffles

Hash

Scrambled Eggs

Tofu scrambled

Frittatas

Fresh Fruit

Assorted Cheeses

Assorted Meats

Crackers

Salmon

Assorted breakfast pastries

Character interactions

Chef Mickey’s is the only character buffet in all of Walt Disney World that has the fab five. Other buffets have these characters, however, this is the only place that has them all together.

At the other character buffets one or more will be missing. Like over at Cape May Cafe for Minnie’s beach bash you will find Minnie, Daisy, Donald, and Goofy. Chef Mickey’s is the only place you will find all five together. This can be great if you don’t want to spend time in the park meeting the different characters.

Here you can see five of them in under an hour. The characters come around to every table. The interactions are pretty quick so have your camera ready when you see them enter your area. Also know that once you see one in your area, the others will be quickly following. I think we were there for maybe 15 minutes before they all started showing up.

If you eat slowly or have a larger party you might even get to see them a second time. It appears it takes the characters about 45 minutes to an hour to circle the entire restaurant.

Location

Chef Mickey’s is located in the Contemporary Resort. It is one of the easier resorts to get to if you have an early breakfast reservation. All you need to do is grab a bus from your resort to the Magic Kingdom and walk over.

The restaurant is located on the 4th floor of the resort. One of the fun aspects of this meal is watching the monorail come through the resort while you are enjoying your meal. I mean, who doesn’t love the monorail?

If you have your car, driving to the Contemporary is really easy as well. If you have a reservation you can park at the resort for your meal. You will need to move your car after your meal if you are planning on going to the parks.

Feelings

Overall, I was very pleased with my meal at Chef Mickey’s. While the price is a little steep, the food was excellent and the character interactions were fun. I will say that I would not do this meal every time I visit.

If the price was a little cheaper, I would consider going each year. Just with the current prices it is not worth it for every visit. If you are on a tight budget, it might not be worth it either. There are a couple of other really good character meals that are at a cheaper price and have most of the characters.

With the Disney Dining plan coming back in 2024, I would use a table serve credit for a meal here. That would be an excellent use of a dining credit.

Personally, Chef Mickey’s is one of my favorite character meals in all of Walt Disney World. I think after your visit you will agree. While it might be a little pricey, the food is great and the character interactions are fun and engaging.
