Worse Rides at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is the most magical place on earth. It is packed full of memorable moments, iconic rides, wonderful characters and so much more. It’s hard to come up with things that are bad.

Oh but there are plenty of things that suck at WDW. From food to experiences and everything in between. Don’t believe me? Remember how sucky it is waiting for the bus back to the resort after fireworks?

You probably forget about that part and only remember how amazing the fireworks over the castle were. The same is true about the rides at Walt Disney World. You remember all the thrilling and classic ones. But what about the rides that are the worse? Is there really a bad ride at Walt Disney World?

So grab your favorite Mickey shaped snack and enjoy our list of the worse rides at Walt Disney World. Did one of your favorite rides make our list?

Astro Orbiter

This is a classic ride in Tomorrowland at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. However, its just a clone of Dumbo that is much smaller. Many people have a hard time fitting in this ride.

Either they are too big or tall. The sad thing is most of the time you don’t know till you approach the ride. Since it is elevated, you just can’t really see it till you are on top of it.

If you can make it on this ride you will have fun. Is there anything better than flying high above the Magic Kingdom?

Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Here is yet another Dumbo clone at the Magic Kingdom. Sure these types of rides are entertaining and enjoyable for all ages. However, the Magic Kingdom has three such rides. They are just themed differently.

The thing that puts the Magic Carpets of Aladdin on this list is the ride queue. You are left outside baking in the Florida sun for up to 30 minutes sometimes. For a ride that lasts less than 2 minutes.

Tomorrowland Speedway

Putting this one on this list pains me just a little. I don’t know what it is but I really do love this ride. No, it’s not because I rode it as a kid. I was 18 the first time I visited Walt Disney World.

The steering of the cars is horrible. Jerking you left and right, left and right. The speed is incredibly slow and at times you think you are barely moving.

Kids love the chance to “drive” the cars. I know my daughter can’t wait till she can ride on her own. Parents don’t like it since you’ll have back and neck pain for the rest of the day. It may have made it on the worse list but it’s still a favorite of mine.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is another attraction at Magic Kingdom. This ride suffers a lot of down time. Like a lot of downtime.

Don’t get me wrong it’s a fun ride. However, I personally find the guns to be inaccurate. The set pieces are amazing to look at and you will get to see plenty of it when your car is stuck.

Soarin’

This one might come as a shock to many readers. Soarin’ is one of the most popular rides at EPCOT and even within Walt Disney World. This ride truly is amazing.

So why did it make the list of worst rides? It’s for two reasons. The 1st is the queue. Many visitors come to Florida by plane. WHO wants to be waiting in a line for up to an hour at times standing in an airport terminal? It just gives off the impression that it will be a boring no thrills ride. But that’s just not the case.

Now skip to the next one if you don’t want this ride ruined for you like it now is for me. I’m not kidding.

Still reading? Ok you have been warned. The 2nd thing that makes this ride one of the worst at WDW. The thing you can’t unsee once you notice it is the skewed perspective. Unless you are in the middle row. Doesn’t matter if you are in row 1 or 4 as long as it’s in the middle you are good.

The left and right sides give you a skewed perspective. The different environments on screen will be bent to the left or right. The Eiffel Tower bends at the top. It still doesn’t completely ruin the ride. Just hurts the experience. Especially if you’ve got to witness this ride from the top middle row.

Spaceship Earth

My daughter will be so mad at me when she reads this list. This is her favorite ride and its one of mine too. It just needs a bit of an update.

Spaceship Earth was scheduled to get a refurbishment in May of 2020. The world broke and it has now been pushed off. The ride is still fun and iconic. It just really needs to come into this decade.

Some of the set pieces seem a little outdated. At the end of the ride you arrive in the 1980s. Communication has come so far in the last 40 years. Don’t change the track and just update some of the scenes and it will be back to a must ride, ride at EPCOT and WDW.

Mission Space

Mission Space is an intense ride. So intense that people have past out because of it. Many riders also get sick from this ride.

If you don’t mind tight quarters go for it. You can ride Green or Orange. Green is the less intense version. It’s still tight but easier on the stomach.

Kali River Rapids

You wouldn’t think a water ride in Florida would make a worse rides list. Kali River Rapids does for one big reason. Over half of the raft will barely get wet.

I can’t tell how many times I’ve come off this ride with barely even getting wet. I’ve gotten wetter waiting in line from sweat. It’s a fun ride but unless luck is on your side. You won’t be getting soaked. Isn’t that the point of water rides?

Tricera Top Spin

Here’s yet another Dumbo clone. There’s nothing really wrong with this ride. At least there is on one of this type in Animal Kingdom.

I am not the biggest fan of DinoLand USA. I just think if they wanted to go with the carnival theme they should’ve went all in. Put in a dino-themed scrambler, Ferris wheel and more of those types of rides.

Disney Buses

I know what you are thinking. Hey, that’s not a ride at Disney World. Sure you might be right but I couldn’t really find a tenth ride to put on this list. Sure I could’ve put Na’vi River Journey or Journey into Imagination on this list but they are pretty decent rides.

Disney buses on the other hand can be the worst. Long lines and waits for a pretty boring experience. Sure it’s just transportation from theme park to resort. But how many times have you just missed the bus to have to wait for the next. I can’t tell you the amount of times that has happened to me. Plus let’s no forget how bad they can be at closing time.

As I review everything, I find it a little crazy that 3 of these rides are found in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom. Stitch’s Great Escape would have made 4 if that ride was still operating daily (even though I’m pretty sure it is closed for good). Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida has close to 50 different rides and attractions.

Not every ride is going to be good. Not every ride is going to be someone’s favorite. Chances are one of your favorite rides made the list. If so let us know in the comments below. But is the really a “worse” ride at Walt Disney World? Well yeah, there kinda is. But one bad ride doesn’t usually ruin a day.
