Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish has been charged with driving without due care and attention, as well as failing to stop at a collision.

West Midlands Police confirmed on Thursday the following action had been taken after an incident in Dickens Heath, Solihull, on March 29.

At the time of the incident, WSP revealed the driver had left his details with a member of the public before leaving on foot.

A statement from the force read: “A Premier League footballer has been charged with driving without due care and attention, and failing to stop at or report a collision.

“Jack Grealish is accused of the offences in Waterside, Dickens Heath, Solihull, on Sunday 29 March.

“An investigation was launched after we responded to reports of a car hitting parked vehicles and the driver fleeing on foot.

“The 24-year-old from Barnt Green, Worcestershire, has been postal charged to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on 25 August.”

Grealish said he was ‘deeply embarrassed’ by his actions following the incident after he ‘stupidly agreed’ to go to a friend’s house – just days after urging people to stay at home during the coronavirus lockdown.

The playmaker, who has been linked with a summer transfer to Manchester United, returned to action on Wednesday in Villa’s goalless draw at home to Sheffield United.
