Matty Longstaff is set to quit Newcastle United at the end of the season to join Udinese, according to reports.

The Serie A side are understood to have offered the midfielder a deal worth 30 times his current salary, which is also twice as much as the Magpies are offering.

Longstaff is out of contract once the season finally reaches its conclusion and has held preliminary discussions with the Zebrette.

According to the Mirror, the only hope Newcastle have of keeping the England Under-20 international at St James’ Park is if their proposed takeover is completed and the new owners tie the youngster down.

The Premier League side will be due a measly £400,000 in compensation for the midfielder from Rotherham, who has featured in the first team line up alongside his older brother, Sean.

On his Premier League debut in front of the Gallowgate End against Manchester United, Longstaff scored what proved to be the winner before repeating the feat at Old Trafford as he scored the opener in a 4-1 defeat.

Current boss Steve Bruce believes the talented 20-year-old could well go on to be a Geordie great and hoped any decision would not be influenced by cash.

“Of course the situation is a concern,” Bruce said. “I just hope that he looks at it as a football decision. Ultimately, when you’re 19, it is about how you look after your career rather than anything else.

“I’m sure there are distractions and people in his ear. I hope he just looks at it as a football career.

“At the end of the day, if you have a successful career, money will find you. That’s always been my philosophy on it.”
