AEW Double or Nothing: Brian Cage makes shock debut in crazy Casino Ladder match and wins future title shot

To kick off AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view, their Casino Ladder match set the tone.

Darby Allin, Scorpio Sky, Frankie Kazarian, Colt Cabana, Orange Cassidy, Kip Sabian, Luchasaurus and Rey Fenix’s last-minute replacement Joey Janela were the original field for this inaugural match, but AEW had billed a mystery entrant ahead of time.

AEW Casino Ladder match delivered as expected

Former IMPACT world champion Brian Cage turned out to be that ninth and final entrant and he went on to win the whole match.

Cage arrived on the scene flanked by ECW and WWE legend Tazz who appears to be his manager and he was directing traffic.

The match had several huge spots, most of which saw Darby Allin risk life and limb, the kind of daredevil antics that have endeared him to fans everywhere.

Cage is 36 years old and he’s mostly known for his world in Lucha Underground, AAA in Mexico and IMPACT, formerly known as TNA.

His physique has always made him a stand-out in the industry and fans noted that he looked bigger than ever during his AEW debut.

The Casino Ladder match was essentially a Money in the Bank ladder match, but they had the nine participants enter the match at two-minute intervals. It was basically a ladder match with a Royal Rumble-esque twist.

Jon Moxley faced off against Brodie Lee in the main event with his AEW title on the line, but Cage can face the champion whenever he likes with the ‘chip’ he secured from the top of the ladder.

Elsewhere at Double or Nothing, Cody Rhodes became the first-ever TNT champion after defeating Lance Archer and he was handled the title by boxing legend Mike Tyson.
