EFL give testing programme update ahead of planned return to training for Championship clubs

The EFL have published an update on the return to training for clubs and its Testing programme.

The initial testing of Championship players, coaches and backroom staff has been taking place on Thursday and Friday.

The full results are not expected to be available until Sunday but the EFL will not be releasing individual data but will advise on the number of tests undertaken and positive cases, if any.

It was also stressed that the testing for players and staff in the second tier of English football will not impact on NHS testing resources or prevent other individuals from receiving a test.

Training is the planned to resume on Monday with the EFL publishing its Return to Training Protocols (RTT) for clubs to follow.

There is currently no Testing Programme for Leagues One and Two and clubs will therefore not be able to return to small group training on Monday.

Clubs are allowed to open training grounds for individual, socially distanced sessions.

The EFL added that provisions were in place to extend the testing to the third and fourth tier depending on the outcome on the end of season discussions.

On Thursday, the EFL also announced that it would be keeping promotion and relegation for the 2019/20 season.

It also said that should the campaign end early, then a points-per-game table would be used.
