Fred believes Bruno Fernandes’ arrival at Manchester United is going to help him become a better goalscorer.

Fernandes has galvanised the Red Devils since his £67million move at Manchester United from Sporting in January, helping them to an 11-match unbeaten run, scoring twice and providing three assists in just six appearances.

And Fred, who has also improved significantly after a disappointing first campaign at Old Trafford, believes the Portugal playmaker will help him find the back of the net more often.

“I hope so as it’s always important to score goals,” he told Manchester United’s official website when asked if he wanted to add more goals to his game. “I’ve been working on it and, with Bruno’s arrival, we’ve got someone who gives us more freedom, given his quality with the ball at his feet.

Fred also said he is enjoying playing in a position where he can contribute in defence and attack.

He added: “So I hope to attack and score more goals and work hard on my finishing to score more goals in a season. I’m certain that, with Bruno’s arrival, more goals will come.”

“My favourite role is where I’ve been playing,’ added Solskjaer. ‘As a second central midfielder, defending solidly but also getting forward and looking to score goals. ‘I think it’s important that a central midfielder has good approach play and finishing skills.

“The way I’ve been playing is the way I like to play and I feel really good in this position.”
