Jamie Carragher has revealed Manchester United hated Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea so much… that they once even Cheered Liverpool Beating the Blues!
The United squad ‘erupted and cheered’ when their fierce rivals Liverpool knocked Mourinho’s side out of the Champions League in the semi-final stage on penalties in 2007.
Mourinho won back-to-back Premier League titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup in his first spell in charge of Chelsea between 2004 and 2007.
And former Liverpool defender Carragher recalled a story he was told by Wayne Rooney about how he and his United teammates revelled in Chelsea’s misery.
In an interview with Blues icon John Terry, Carragher told Sky Sports: “Wayne Rooney told me a story once, and I think it showed the animosity towards Chelsea at that time, from a lot of clubs.
“Jose was so brash, so much on the front foot, cocky, arrogant, good looking. He seemed to have everything at that time.
“Rooney told us that when we beat you on penalties in the 2007 semi-final, and they were playing their semi-final second leg against Milan the next evening, all the Man United lot in the hotel watching it before erupted and cheered when we won.
“And you think with the Liverpool and Man United rivalry, I think it just shows how much you were respected and feared, but also how much Jose Mourinho got under people’s skin.”
Terry admits Chelsea were ‘disliked’ by their Premier League rivals, and the legendary skipper believes the animosity began as soon as Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich completed his takeover in 2003.
Abramovich invested incredible amounts of money into the club which allowed them to build a stunning playing squad and resulted in Chelsea winning their first league title in half-a-century in the 2004/05 season.

“I think we were disliked by I think the whole of the Premier League,” said Terry.
“With Roman coming in, injecting the money, and what Mourinho was about as well.
“Within those meetings we had, it was about us against them. We wanted to build a fortress.
“He made us feel so together and so connected, that we could feel we could go out and beat anyone, regardless of the fear factor or how good the other team were.”
Mourinho came up against Sir Alex Ferguson’s Man United on ten occasions in his first spell as Chelsea boss, winning five times – including in the 2007 FA Cup final – and losing only twice.
His first match in English football was actually against the Red Devils, as an Eidur Gudjohnsen goal downed Ferguson’s side at Stamford Bridge to get Mourinho’s spell as Chelsea manager off to a perfect start.
