FIFA 20 ratings refresh: One player from every Premier League club who deserves an upgrade, including Arsenal wonderkid and Liverpool star Jordan Henderson

We’re two-thirds of the way through most seasons across Europe so it’s about time FIFA 20 hit us with their annual ratings refresh.

Every year those players who have excelled during the campaign, winning Team of the Week awards and more, see their original grades boosted.

In FIFA 19, Virgil van Dijk saw his 85 rating boosted to 88, while it’s now at a huge 90

This season, more than ever, it appears we’ve seen some huge improvements from certain players which would see them deserving of an increase.

Last year the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Kane, Virgil van Dijk, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Alisson were all boosted thanks to their performances in the English top-flight.

Others around the globe, including Thiago, Joshua Kimmich, Timo Werner, and Karim Benzema also saw their ratings improved.

So, as we approach the announcement of this year’s recipients, talkSPORT.com has taken a look at one man from each Premier League club who should see his stats upgraded in FIFA 20.

Arsenal – Gabriel Martinelli

Current rating = 68

Predicted rating = 74

The Brazilian wonderkid was meant to be one for the future but already he’s been a shining light this season.

Had it not been for the 10 goals he has scored in all competitions the Gunners’ campaign would have been even worse than their current placing in the Premier League suggests.

In FIFA 20 he’s already been given a Future Stars card with a rating of 90 and currently you wouldn’t bet against him reaching somewhere close to that level with his exceptional skill levels already dazzling English football.

Aston Villa – Jack Grealish

Current rating = 77

Predicted rating = 80

Tottenham must still be kicking themselves as back in 2018 they offered just £3m plus Josh Onomah for the English talent.

Now he’s absolutely starring in the Premier League, despite being in a tough situation with his boyhood club.

Whether as a central midfielder or as an inside forward, Grealish has looked a quality player and England caps are sure to come soon.

An number of in-game Team of the Week cards mean he’s almost certain to get a boost in the refresh.

Bournemouth Harry Wilson

Current rating = 75

Predicted rating = 77

The Cherries are struggling this season and will need to battle hard if they are to remain in the Premier League.

Wilson, though, has shown he’s worthy of remaining in he top-flight should Bournemouth get relegated.

On loan from Liverpool, it’s reported they will accept an offer for the player should it meet their demands.

With seven goals, including some outrageous set-pieces, he’s sure to find a buyer.

Brighton and Hove Albion – Dan Burn

Current rating = 71

Predicted rating = 76

The 6ft 6in defender has played centrally and as a left-back this year and been a fine performer.

Brighton’s form has tailed off recently, but Burn has not been a part of this due to a fractured collarbone and was back in the team for the 1-1 draw with Watford.

His performance against Tottenham earlier in the season showed just how talented he is.

Burnley – James Tarkowski

Current rating = 78

Predicted rating = 80

An England squad regular it’s a surprise he’s not been bumped higher than his current rating sooner.

Superb aerially, Tarkowski is a tough opponent for any of the Premier League’ top strikers and the player’s statistics would be even more favourable if Burnley didn’t play the ball long as much.

He’s had two in-form Ultimate Team cards in FIFA 20 so a bump is definitely expected.

Chelsea – Reece James

Current rating = 73

Predicted rating = 77

We get why EA Sports may have been a little shy to boost James’ rating given he was playing at Wigan last season.

Frankly, though, even after an injury, it was obvious he would quickly be a star in the Premier League.

He’s forced himself in at right-back in a top four side as Cesar Azpilicueta shifts to left-back.

Crystal Palace – Vicente Guaita

Current rating = 79

Predicted rating = 81

The Spanish goalkeeper won’t be considered the most glamorous of names in the Premier League but he is a fine shot-stopper.

Had it not been for Guaita, the Eagles may have found themselves in a worse position this season.

Everton – Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Current rating = 77

Predicted rating = 80

Some may have doubted the youngster’s ability as a finisher but since Marco Silva’s exit he’s been in fine form.

Eight goals since the start of December have propelled the Toffees into a promising position and it clearly looks like Calvert-Lewin is relishing his role and is evenly spreading his goals by left foot (3), right foot (4), and head (4).

Leicester City – Wilfred Ndidi

Current rating = 83

Predicted rating = 85

The Foxes have been fantastic this season but have struggled in their four Premier League games without the Nigerian in recent weeks.

His exceptional rate of tackles and interceptions are missed when he isn’t in the team and seven goals have been conceded in those matches.

It’s time he was considered one of the league’s best midfielders.

Liverpool – Jordan Henderson

Current rating = 83

Predicted rating = 85

There has been a lot of clamour for Henderson to be among the contenders for the Premier League’s Player of the Year.

He’s been a real driving force behind Jurgen Klopp’s men as their performance level dips and has weighed in with two goals and two assists in their last three games.

Since he looked out on his ear in the middle of last season the way he’s carried himself and made himself a key star again is admirable.

Surely nobody can still doubt Henderson’s quality

Manchester City – Riyad Mahrez

Current rating = 84

Predicted rating = 85

Bearing in mind how far Man City’s level has dipped since last season, it’s hard to find many of their players who deserve a boost.

Mahrez, though, has showed flashes of excellence throughout the campaign and helped City to some key wins to keep them in the top three.

He’s still a little patchy but his top form is now at a higher level.

Manchester United – Scott McTominay

Current rating = 77

Predicted rating = 79

Red Devils fans may have a love-hate relationship with former boss Jose Mourinho but he at least helped harness the ability of the Scottish midfielder.

With injuries engulfing United, he was a key man until he suffered one of his own.

He should be a star at Old Trafford for years to come if he continues to progress.

Newcastle United – Matty Longstaff

Current rating = 62

Predicted rating = 71

He’s not the biggest star in the Magpies’ squad but he deserves a better rating than the 62 he was given at the start of the season.

His goals against Manchester United were high points and he’s showing potential.

Martin Dubravka and Fabian Schar get honourable mentions for an upgrade.

Norwich City – Emiliano Buendia

Current rating = 74

Predicted rating = 78

If the Canaries get relegated they are set to be raided by a number of top Premier League club.

One man who they will get a hefty fee for will be Argentine ace Buendia.

The midfielder has been a real highlight

In a struggling side, he’s made seven assists and is averaging 2.8 key passes per game.

An excellent technician too, he’s going to be wanted by the big boys.

Sheffield United – John Lundstram

Current rating = 67

Predicted rating = 75

In the Blades’ superbly fluid team, it’s no surprise Lundstram has four goals and two assists this season.

He’s been a key component in Chris Wilder’s side and he performances are even better when you consider he was part of the team promoted from League One.

Southampton – Danny Ings

Current rating = 76

Predicted rating = 80

No surprises here.

The striker has spearheaded Ralph Hasenhuttl’s revolution and his 14 goals have been absolutely vital to their performances.

Even the meanest defences in the Premier League are struggling with him and an England squad place is now likely on the horizon in March.

Tottenham Hotspur – Tanguy Ndombele

Current rating = 81

Predicted rating = 83

Okay, he’s had his fitness issues. We know that.

His talent, though, is there for all to see – just look at his cameo against Manchester City. He made a fool of Rodri twice with one piece of excellent play assisting Heung-Min Son’s goal.

Should he get conditioned for the Premier League he could be one of its biggest talents.

Watford – Ismaila Sarr

Current rating = 78

Predicted rating = 80

Sarr has undeniably been Watford’s player of the season, despite playing only 16 times and not getting a consistent run of starts until December.

His influence in the two months since then is clear for all to see, especially given his recent injury has coincided with Watford dropping points from winning positions in each of their past three games.

He is the lone threat in the Watford line-up and opposition players are starting to double up on a player who looks dangerous every single time he gets the ball.

West Ham United – Mark Noble

Current rating = 76

Predicted rating = 78

The Hammers are in serious danger this season but their captain has been giving his all.

If it were not for the rallying Noble, who had looked a lot better this season, they would be in an even worse position.

Wolverhampton Wanderers – Adama Traore

Current rating = 74

Predicted rating = 80

What’s not to love about the Spanish winger.

His barrelling runs have been putting the fear into even the most experienced defenders.

The muscular Wolves ace is improving his technique and his end product and we expect big clubs to start sniffing around him in the summer.
