Darnold was looking for an open receiver when Steelers’ outside linebacker TJ Watt came in with his fist to try and knock the ball out of his hand.

Watt missed the ball and got the quarterback in the groin but still managed to force it out of Darnold’s hand.

The Steelers recovered the fumble and then went on to score a touchdown before the end of the half.

It was the only touchdown scored by Pittsburgh in the 16-10 defeat as they again suffered problems at quarterback,

Devlin Hodges threw two interceptions before being benched for Mason Rudolph who fared better.

Darnold had one touchdown for 183 yards as his Jets team moved on to 6-9 for the season, which is the first time they have won six games since 2015.

The Steelers slipped to 8-7 and will need to beat the red-hot Baltimore Ravens led by Lamar Jackson in the final game of the season if they want to get the final wild card play-off spot.
