Manchester United remain keen on Mario Mandzukic after failed summer transfer as striker eyes Juventus exit

Mario Mandzukic remains a January target for Manchester United having come close to signing the Juventus striker during the summer.

Mandzukic, the Croatia international who helped knock England out the 2018 World Cup, was seen as the ideal replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who departed Old Trafford for Inter Milan.

The 33-year-old has failed to make a single appearance for Juve this season, only appearing on the bench in three of four Serie A games played so far.

He is expected to leave the club either in January or next summer, and Tuttosport say Mandzukic will reject a big-money offer from Qatar and assess his options at the start of 2020.

The forward is said to prefer a move to the Premier League, and the report claims United are still keen on Mandzukic having been interested in signing him in July.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side are desperately lacking firepower this season, something that was glaringly apparent on Sunday when Man United were beaten 2-0 at West Ham.

Marcus Rashford limped off with a groin injury and joins Anthony Martial in the treatment room, while teenager Mason Greenwood missed the match at the London Stadium with tonsillitis.

Jesse Lingard, a midfielder who has failed to score a goal since last December, ended the match up front.

United have two wins, two draws and two defeats from their opening six games of the new Premier League season, scoring just eight goals.
