Self-Care Tips During A Pandemic

There is no doubt that life as we know it has changed over the past few months. For some, it is unclear when things will go back to normal. This can be very concerning. Though these are stressful times, it is important not to forget about taking care of yourself. You may have transitioned to working from home full-time while at the same time caring for your children who are in school virtually. It can be easy to forget about your needs. Here are some self-care tips you can follow that will keep your spirits up and your body healthy. Image credit. Check-In On Yourself It can be very easy to go through the day without keeping inventory of how you are feeling. You want to avoid this. Check-in on yourself and ask yourself how are you feeling mentally, emotionally and physically. If you go on without asking yourself these questions frequently, it will be too late by the time these things make themselves known in your body. Give yourself time to grieve the way things were. It is ok to feel sad or frustrated because you cannot go to a happy hour with friends or go to your favorite yoga class or worship collectively. Let yourself process those emotions and grieve that loss. There is nothing wrong with that. Take Care Of Your Physical Health Eat right and give your body the healthy fuel it needs to run properly. Avoid eating too many comfort foods as this could be detrimental to your physical and Mental Health. When you eat poorly, you feel poorly. Drink lots of water. Get a good night’s rest, aiming for seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Make time to exercise, take deep breaths, and stretch often. Avoid overindulging in alcohol, drugs, or excessive gambling. Surround yourself with nature at least once a day. Avoid having to see the dentist Nashua, NH or wherever you are local, because of a dentist emergency by brushing and flossing your teeth daily. Take Care Of Your Mental Health Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Set and maintain a routine at home. For example, make every Friday night family movie night or try to have dinner at the same time every day. These routines will help give you a sense of normalcy. This may be easier said than done but only focus on things you can control. Remember what you are grateful for and focus on that instead. Stay connected with your family and loved ones through things like FaceTime or Zoom. You could even schedule regular check-ins. Do the things that bring you joy like listening to music, reading a book or trying a new recipe. Constantly staying up-to-date on the news can be tempting but it is not doing much for your mental health. It is important that you take breaks or limit your exposure from news and social media if it is making you anxious.
