The Origin Story: Chapter 5

Previously on The Origin Story: Chapter 4

Eating one of her favorite food and meeting him after a long time, was one of the best memories. Around halfway in their day together, the second item on the menu saw the light of day. And that multiplied that joy tenfold.

That was the first actual surprise he ever gave her. And only a handful of situations ever topped that. Long conversations soon ensued between them, a couple of hours easily passed. And the day had to end, sadly. Only to rise and shine bright the next day, she was free as a bird with nothing much to do except talk to him, be with him and enjoy.

What does a good person do when someone close to them is feeling low? What does a best friend do when someone close to them is feeling blue?

Most of the earlier chapters focused on their relationship post proposal. This one is going to be different. This is a memory that happened before they got together, on a random evening. Maybe this event acted as a catalyst to her journey towards figuring out what she felt for him, maybe it didn’t, but nevertheless, this did have quite a positive impact on her opinion of him. This is an event focused on their friendship.

This incident led her to see him a new light of a good friend and a good person, someone she could count on, someone who could help her when nothing/ no one else did. And no, not in FriendZone hues

Maybe it will seem stupid to some, but it turned out to be a big plus point for him in wooing her. So hey, it is important.

This incident was in the budding days of their friendship. She was still in school when this happened. It is a universal fact there will always be at least one supervisor/ teacher, a person who we don’t get along with at all. A teacher during whose class we are bored and irritated out of our minds. This incident was regarding the same person.

After a long irritating day, without the class which they shared together, she was in one of the worst head spaces till date. Frustrated at everything and everyone. And there was her knight in shining armor, with a blue and white overlay. (They were chatting on facebook )

Now, I, in no way justifying the thoughts she had, and I’m not glorifying these thoughts, but at that moment, shrouded in the mist of Frustration, Anger, and helplessness, she just jokingly considered dying than live through this. This, of course, wasn’t that extreme, and that thought wasn’t serious at the moment but if someone is having these thoughts and feeling that above emotions, consistently, please reach out to someone, your partner, a close friend, a family member. You can even reach out to me if you like. Safe, judgment-free space, Guaranteed.

Coming back to the story, generally, the appropriate response or the appropriate way to act in situations like these is to console the person, try to convince the person that, those thoughts aren’t gonna help anyone. But sometimes this route is like throwing gasoline on a raging bonfire. But he, took the road less traveled.

Starting out by talking about death and life after, the topic of ghosts soon popped up. And that sparked an epiphany in his mind. The ghost route can be a way to exorcise the anger and frustration out of her. For obvious reasons, the frustration and anger couldn’t be expressed to the concerned people. However, haunting them after death was a viable way to express the anger.

The list of hypothetical hauntings went on and on, pulling out all the anger and frustration out of her. Obviously, I won’t name the victims of the hauntings, but it covered a broad spectrum of people. From small petty troublers to more heinous ones.

And while hatching a Mission Impossible-esque plan to haunt someone, she laughed. Expressing anger often leads to tears, but rarely does it lead to laughter. Even though some might consider this way stupid and risky, it worked. She soon felt better

He too added some of his own suggestions. (#MakingHerFeelNormal) Because he too contributed to the list and in the hypothetical haunting, it made her feel that she wasn’t alone. It made her feel that there is someone out there who understands. Someone is out there who can listen.

It made her feel safe.

A pretty Outlandish approach, eh?
