They didn’t talk for 3-4 days. Which made both of them equally desperate to talk to one another. She was in the hospital, and at the time, she didn’t have a cell phone, so their only way of communication was Facebook. During her time at the hospital, she didn’t have access to her laptop, hence no access to him.
When they didn’t talk for 3-4 days, his first few thoughts were quite normal i.e internet issues or busy schedule or something like that. But the next thought was that, “Please don’t be in the hospital.”, and his worst thought was actually true.

Everybody has many high points along with fair amount of low points. But isn’t that what life is? Just like the heartbeat, rising and falling with every beat, moments happen, highs and lows, which set the course for the future.

After the hospital incident, normal lives resumed. The walk back from the class became Longer and the time apart became shorter. Soon, they met every day, adjusting their batches accordingly.

The talks on Facebook became longer and more personal. Initially, the goodbye at night was short and abrupt. But as the times changed, the goodbye’s became longer and harder. He used to go offline immediately after saying goodbye, which would drive her mad at times. The reason behind he going instantly was that, he then could read what she had said, when he was free and online and she wasn’t. Any Replies to that became a pseudo-conversation, a new conversation, which to reduced the time apart even more and served as a conversation starter for the next day.

There were many key moments in both of their lives that made them realise that this was something special. This is one of them.

This takes place on his birthday. They were just 5 months as friends, but they were closer than any best friend would be.

When she was in school, she had a rule: No boyfriends till the end of 10th grade. Because of this, she had declined a few proposals from other guys. But when someone you didn’t expect makes you feel that this rule has run its course, that makes you want to violate that rule, is someone you should hold on to. And she realised this on his birthday.

On his birthday, they didn’t talk as much as she would have liked because of his plans with his family and friends. She did wish him, at 0000hrs. The first one to wish him. And that made her feel unexpectedly special. In retrospect, this should have been her clue number 1.

As she didn’t have a cell phone at the time, the only major way of communication was facebook at night. But that night time long chat was cut short due to his plans. And this made her really frustrated. She wanted to be with him, she wanted to celebrate with him.

That frustration is what made her realise that she had something special. She had way more intimate feelings for him than a best friend or for this to be just a crush. This was something more. She was too angry at him because they didn’t meet. She was frustrated they didn’t talk much. That is the night she realised this wasn’t just a crush, this could be something serious.
Of course, she didn’t reveal this to him until few years down the road.

True love is unexpected and it doesn’t make sense. You can’t logic your way into or out of it. Love is totally nonsensical. But we have to keep doing it, or else we’re lost and love is dead and humanity should just pack it in. Because love is the best thing we do.
