The Consequences of Not Planning for the Worst.

Hey everyone, welcome back to the blog.

I want to share a Story with you guys of something that happened to me over the weekend, and hopefully, the lessons it taught me is something we can all learn from.

So, this Sunday been (15th of July 2018), I was fortunate enough to see Eminem at Twickenham, London. Now, to me, this was everything. He’s one of, if not my favourite artist to exist. But, that’s a story for another time, the only concern I had about the Concert was the location, not that Twickenham isn’t a great stadium which it is, it’s just the infrastructure and area around the stadium can’t exactly support 80,000 plus people going at it at once. This is important for later on, trust me.

Getting to the Concert.

Admittedly we got to London later than expected but that was fine because we had seated tickets and there was plenty of time left as there were three support acts. So, the journey to the ground was relatively uneventful although unbearably hot and uncomfortable. But, we arrived at Twickenham station from Waterloo at about 5:30 which wasn’t bad at all. However…

Leaving the Concert.

The concert was amazing and couldn’t have been any better. But, after the show ended, the beginning of a 3.5 nightmare journey back to the hotel begun.

Remember what I said earlier about the 80,000 plus fans? Well, yeah that happened.

Everyone from the ground wanted to get home, and with the train station being about 1/2 mile from the stadium on residential roads it was gridlocked from the stadium to the station, plus with event officials segregating the crowd, I think snails overtook us.

But, with spirits high, we’re aiming to get the last Jubilee line train from Waterloo at 00:04, however after an hour and a half had passed from the concert ending at 22:30 and with us still not at the station, that idea was dumped.

This is where the moral of the story comes in. In this situation, most people would know what to do, but with us being so caught up in the high of the concert and then the business of leaving the ground, no-one had thought of a plan b…

So, that’s what our 30-minute train ride from Twickenham to Waterloo constituted of; us frantically searching for other ways to get from south-central London to the north-east at 00:30 in the morning on a Sunday with the night tube not running.

But, eventually as the train was pulling into Waterloo, I found a route we could take on the bus, it was longer, but we didn’t care; we just wanted to get to bed.

And, after an hour longer than it should’ve been on the tube, we finally arrived back at our hotel after an interesting bus ride through central London. But, that’s not what today’s post is about so I’ll save that for another time.

Conclusion.

And, that’s how our evening went. From concert high to transport low. And, if we had decided to make a plan b in the event of the worst happening all that frantic worrying and stressing could have been avoided.

This story leads me to my question. Are you ready for the worst? Do you make plan B’s in case the original plan goes south?

It’s doesn’t happen often, and hopefully, it never happens to you, but learn from my mistake and make a plan in case your original plan doesn’t work, it’ll save you a lot of stress and worry; trust me.

Have you ever had your transport plans go south? I’d love to talk about it other on Twitter.

I hope you enjoyed this post.

See you next time.

Thank you,

Coner
