the special shelters by the roadside,
set up by caring citizens
for those in need,

some serving buttermilk too,
to thirsty travellers and passers by,

beckoning the parched avians
and four legged strays too,
during blazing summer days -

a part of our culture and tradition,
reinforcing the basic tenets
of hospitality and warmth,
followed down the ages.
