Our Top 10 Books of 2017

2017 has been a great year of reading for me. Books have been better than ever, and because I have read many amazing books this year, this is is a list of some of our favourite reads of 2017!



10 Death Cure


Genre: Dystopian
Age Recommendation: 11 yrs and up
Overall Rating: 8.7/10
The 3rd installment in the Maze Runner series, it continues to be as engaging and page-turning as all the previous books in the series. It brings new obstacles, lets you learn about the characters, and brings a fascinating end to the series.


9 The boy who swam with Piranhas



Genre: General Fiction
Age Recommendation: 10yrs and up
Overall Rating: 8.4/10

A heartwarming book set on the idea that you can do anything you can imagine. Young Sam has a beautiful character arc and this book is a pleasure to read






8 Gone

Genre: Biography
Age Recommendation: 11yrs and up
Overall Rating: 9.8/10



This book is a collection of stories from athletes from LeBron James to Tim Howard. You will learn about how these athletes overcame obstacles in their lives.



7 Rising Above


Genre: Biography
Age Recommendation: 11yrs and up
Overall Rating: 9.8/10

This book is a collection of stories from athletes from LeBron James to Tim Howard. You will learn about how these athletes overcame obstacles in their lives.


6 David and Goliath

Genre: Psychology
Age Reccomdation: 11yrs and up
Rating: 9/10

This book discusses how defeating giants aren't so improbable after all. Malcolm Gladwell reasons that Goliath was so heavy, he was not fast. Malcolm Gladwell writes about how you can defeat your giants







5 Legend


Genre: Dystopia
Age Reccomdation: 12 yrs and up
Rating: 9.4/10
This is a much less well-known book, that tells the stories of 2 characters growing up in very different environments and in a world where America is split into 2 sides. Full of treachery and betrayal, this gripping book will make you never want to put it down.

4 Extraordinary education of Nicholas Benedict

Genre: Tragedy
Age Reccomdation: 10 yrs and up
Rating: 9.4/10
There is a tragic story of Nicholas Benedict. Unlimited potential, but wasted on an orphan. This witty book will have readers young and old glued to their seat.




3. Hunger Games

Genre: Dystopia
Age Recommendation: 12yrs and up
Overall Rating: 9/10
This well-known amazing book is based on a dystopian future world where every year, 24 participants have to fight in the Hunger Games. This captivating award-winning book is one of my all-time favourites!

2. Heart of a Samurai

Genre: Historical Fiction
Age Recommendation: 10yrs and up
Overall Rating: 9.5/10

This gripping book is about a young Japanese boy trying to mingle with the Americans. At the time Japan was isolated, and this book shows shades of tragedy, discrimination, and Joy.
