Sagrada Familia Church (Barcelona)
This church is also known as The Basílica de la Sagrada Familia and it is an unfinished Roman Catholic Church that has to be seen on your trip to Spain. Designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí, who took over the project in 1883, the Sagrada Familia minor has an eccentric flair of Gothic and Art Noveau architecture and engineering throughout. Gaudi spent the rest of his life trying to complete the Sagrada Familia but died in 1926 when it was only a quarter of the way done. Tourists can see it today in its unfinished form, although that is expected to change, as the timeline for completing the additional spirals and accouterments is scheduled for 2026, exactly one hundred years after Gaudi’s death.
Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao)
Here we have one of Spain’s cultural treasures and one of several museums belonging to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The Guggenheim museum features international and Spanish artists with permanent and visiting works on display. But the building itself gets as much attention as the artwork contained within its magnificent walls. American architect Frank Gehry constructed his seminal masterpieces by using a limestone and glass façade with titanium sheets as an underpinning.
The Guggenheim museum was labeled an architectural marvel from its opening in 1997 and visitors travel all over the world to view the seamless integration of innovative design and sculpture into a captivating monolith that has become one of Spain’s true modern-day treasures.
Costa del Sol Beaches
Breathtaking landscapes are par-for-the-course in the southernmost part of Spain, including miles upon miles of sun-splashed beaches that beckon everyone who travels to the region.
