At my church, I help out with the kids, and yesterday was my Sunday to help teach (alongside my sister Alexis) in Children’s Church during service. Our Student Life team has prepared lessons this month on the Attributes of God, and this one preached to me yesterday! So much so, that I had to share it as a Godfirmation today.

One of the many attributes of God is that NO MATTER WHAT, He does not change which is highlighted in Malachi 3:6. And I personally am very grateful for that.

When I looked at this a little deeper, in the book of Malachi, the prophet Malachi ministered to Judah, one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Basically, the priests there were being disobedient to God, which led to the people of Judah becoming lax with His commands and their own walks with God. However, in spite of that, God still loved them and kept His covenant because, as Malachi 3:6, HE DOES NOT CHANGE. And because of that, essentially, they were still standing.

And my heart was full as I broke that attribute down in a way that the babies could understand. That, no matter what, God’s love, His character, His faithfulness, and all of the other attributes we know about Him, are unwavering! So even when other people may switch up on us, God is consistent.

Now that doesn’t mean that we just get to do whatever we want with no consequences (the people of Israel had to learn the hard way more than once!). God’s character doesn’t change, and neither do His expectations of us as believers. We are still called to live a holy life, set apart to proclaim His goodness (2 Peter 2:9-10).

But I stand confident in the fact that no matter what goes on in my life — in any of our lives! — God’s faithfulness and love will see us through. In spite of my own many inconsistencies, God is not changing!
