GODFIRMATION: You Matter to God

“When I look at Your Heavens, the work of Your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which You have set in place,
what is man that You are mindful of him,
and the son of man that You care for him?”

Psalm 8:3-4 (English Standard Version)

As we kick off another new week, let’s start with a Godfirmation to encourage us — this one coming from Psalm 8:3-4.

I love the book of Psalms, many of which were written by David, who vulnerably pours his heart out to God in a lot of wild circumstances. In a good bit of his writings, David also gives praise and glory to God for the works of His hands, including in Psalm 8. The great hymn of the church, “How Great Thou Art,” was even inspired by Psalm 8. In this particular passage, David praises God as the Creator of the heavens and the earth. He also is in awe that this incredible Creator still thinks and cares about our lives!

In life, humans can be fickle and funny-acting, too busy, or simply don’t care about those around them. There are people even in positions that are supposed to serve people but only care about money and power. But that’s not God!

The God Who created the entire UNIVERSE, and is omnipresent and dealing with other people’s issues on top of yours, is all-powerful and caring enough to come see about you and your issues. He still wants to hear from YOU, in all your flaws and with all of your supposed “baggage.” And He’s consistent with His love! You matter to Him.

And because you matter to God, you are valuable and enough — no matter what others may have told you before.

I’m grateful for that reminder today. That this incredible God still cares enough about little old me! I hope that encourages someone today.
