B Prepared For What You Want

(THIS POST IS A PART OF MY “B” SERIES WHICH I’LL DELIVER ONCE A MONTH!

CONTINUE TO B KIND. B SILLY. B INSPIRED. B IMPERFECT.)

This post is a little bit of a vent. I know that it can be super frustrating to feel like you’ve been working your tail off to achieve your goals and you’re still not getting ahead. I’ve been there. On some things, I am there.

I am building up my brand for Imperfectly B, growing in freelance writing gigs, building a side hustle in Zumba. Sometimes, I’m overwhelmed by the amount of work that goes into all of that. I also sometimes get overwhelmed by the feeling of needing to “get ahead” with my work, earning more followers or income or whatever else.

The problem is, I want this “big success” as a blogger and influencer but I’ve found that I’m not really as ready for it as I claim to be. I haven’t established the proper processes and consistent habits that I need to do. I still have things that I need to learn so that I can be the best that I can be. I need to prepare myself for the things that I claim I want.

There’s a saying that says, “If you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready.”

There’s been moments where writing opportunities have popped up for me, and there was no issue snagging them because I was ready. I’m constantly pruning my skills and learning new software so that I could make valuable contributions to a team.

In this next phase of my creative career, I have to be willing to do the same work. In order for me to get the future work and success that I claim to want, I need to be working like I already have it. Like it’s coming my way any minute now. Because I believe that it is.

But, if an opportunity comes knocking, and I squander it because I haven’t grown to the level that I need to personally and professionally, I’m going to be kicking myself. Matter of fact, I have kicked myself. I recently lost out on a new writing gig simply because I didn’t do enough research on my field and really work to update my portfolio, etc. I’ve realized one major thing:

How you show up for yourself now is how you’re going to show up later because it’s HABIT.

It may seem cliche or so basic , but it’s true. You have to put in the work like your shot is already right in front of you. You can’t wait for it to get here and then say, “Oh, alright. Now it’s really time to get to the grind.” NO. By then, it will be too late. At the very least, you’ll be behind the curve because you should’ve have already been doing the work consistently anyway.

You have build your strength, endurance, your habits, your skill level, etc. right now so that when opportunities come knocking, you’re ready!

DON’T WASTE YOUR SHOT BY NOT BEING PREPARED FOR THE THINGS YOU WANT.

That’s my word for the day. Hopefully, my ramblings help.

Imperfectly,
