This week I tried my hand at Typography. For those who are new to this term, it refers to “the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and appealing when displayed”. As with most new endeavors, I had no clue what the end product would look like. But as the perfectionist in me took a back seat and the artist took over, the journey became less about expectations and more about discovery and learning.
In a world of digital art and graphic design, I rediscovered the beauty of hand calligraphy on actual paper and the limitless creativity it offers. I Learnt how time consuming and intricate it can get, no matter how small the scale of the work. I also learnt that like most art techniques, it is much harder than it looks! When I was done, my eyes were watery and my fingers stiff, but the outcome was worth it.
I decided to fill in my typographic artwork with lyrics from some of my all-time favorite songs. After all, nothing expresses love as profoundly as art and music.
