Coming Back to Life

It has been months since I quit my job and I am just now coming back to life. I spent a greater part of the first Couple of months binge watching Scrubs, This Is Us, The Twilight Saga and eating a lot but lost about 10 pounds though so that can’t be terrible. Then the last few months I’ve been quite the work-a-holic trying to set myself up to make a few bucks at home then the 10 pounds came back on (links to my recent projects are below).

The first couple of weeks I was having some sort of asthma thing going on where I had a hard time breathing an felt ridiculously exhausted all the time. The doctor was surprised to hear that I’ve never had asthma before. That took a couple of weeks to get better with an inhaler. During all the doctors visits we discovered that my cholesterol is great and I don’t have a thyroid issue. In fact nothing was wrong and she was definitely surprised because of my weight (although she didn’t actually say it, you can see it in her face). There was one thing that did come up on my blood work; Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). That explained everything, especially the weight gain. It sounds more serious than it is. Something like 1 in every 4 women have it and birth control pills are used to treat it but since I refuse to take those, it affects me more (read more about it here: https://www.webmd.com/women/what-is-pcos).

There is another way to manage it instead of getting on the pill and that’s your diet. I am sure I’ve talked about that plenty of times over the years but it’s true. It is also very difficult especially in the world we live in. If you want to heal from a majority of health issues, a true whole foods diet is the root of it all. That means if it was made in a factory then you’re just slowly killing yourself. That’s unfortunately almost everything we eat isn’t it?

So, what do we do? Move to a farm and spend the rest of your days growing and raising your own food? That does sound tempting but my husband won’t go for it yet. What I am doing is educating myself and making changes a little at a time. It’s working so far and thankfully my hubby is on board. We are reducing the processed foods from our diet, having less pasta and bread, our dairy intake has minimized drastically and I don’t drink milk anymore. On top of that, we go out maybe once a week. It’s a lot of work but I cook at home more. I have the time now so why not? I might have a couple of cocktails a week. Also, I have been having shakes in the morning, usually on an empty stomach.

Here is the recipe

This shake as become my morning ritual. I have been feeling better since I’ve been replacing my breakfast for this. It has some vegetables in it but with all the fruit, I promise it actually tastes pretty good! Because everything is liquefied you will get hungry again a Couple Hours later. Have an egg or a fresh snack to hold you over for lunch.

  • 4 carrot sticks
  • 1/4 of green apple
  • 1 banana
  • 2-3 inches of cucumber
  • 1-2 handfuls of fresh Spinach
  • about 5 or 6 strawberries
  • 1/4 cup blueberries
  • 1/4 cup raspberries
  • 1 TBSP chia seed powder
  • 1/4 TBSP moringa powder
  • 1 TBSP honey
  • 1 radish (if i happen to have it in the ridge that day)
  • Juice – about a 1/4 – 1/2 cup. Enough to allow everything to blend. I use what I have and that’s usually fresh squeezed oranges, a lemon, or if I’m out, my hubby always has some juice mixer for his cocktails in the fridge. It is better to use the fresh stuff if you can.

Things have been settling in lately, the YouTube and blogs are not making enough for me to pull my own weight but at least I’ve slowed down the work-a-holic thing lately and reminding myself whats important. Me.

Here’s the beginning of my garden! I make sure to stop working around 5 or 6 and go outside for a couple hours a day now. Even if its to pull weeds or cover up the hole my dogs dug that morning.

I had a great big garden several years ago. It was great therapy when I moved back down from Boston after the car accident. I had vegetables, fruit and herbs coming out of my ears it was so big. I miss being able to walk into my yard and pick what I’m having for dinner.

Until next time!
