I’m Back!

On Monday I did something that I swore I would never do again… and I love it!!! I was so scared of many things. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to handle it with my back being in the condition that it is. I was scared to death that my fat ass wouldn’t be able to survive it. Finally, I was deathly afraid I would be terrible at it because it has been so many years since I last did it. Turns out it’s like riding a bike.

To be 100% open and honest, my husband and I have been kind of struggling financially since I quit my job as a legal assistant. I really did make decent money there. My expectations of being a stay at home wife were very different from the reality that smacked us in the faces. I thought I was going to do so much more than actually happened. Our YouTube channel (The Adventures of Apple and Rob) suffered greatly too. I had so much time on my hands to catch up on the videos I needed to edit but when I was done, we couldn’t go anywhere to make new videos and have new adventures because… well… we were kind of broke. I was also designing t-shirts which did decent at first but still wasn’t nearly enough (these are the stores: Afternoons With Apple,  Adventures of Apple and Rob and Passholder Magic

After about 2 months of staying at home and trying to recover. We realized it was time for me to get a job again. I began applying at law firms which I dreaded. I got several interviews that I canceled and the one I showed up at I kinda insulted the managers. It was a management company who was hiring a paralegal but wanted the person to do attorney things. So I flat out said to them “so what you really need is an attorney huh?” They uncomfortably nodded their heads yes and ended the Interview. Needless to say I never got called back.

I must admit I was being really picky with my job selections. After weeks and weeks of applying for the most random jobs that didn’t require you to work nights or weekends I finally get an interview request from this place on Las Olas in Ft. Lauderdale. I went and it really wasn’t much of an interview. The job was offered was from the start right after he asked how my knife skills are. I landed the dream job. Cooking at an upscale seafood restaurant Monday through Friday 8am-3pm(ish). A place just fancy enough that Dan Marino eats lunch here often.

Monday was my first day and I was really nervous. It’s been years since I was a line cook. Were they going to like me? Was I going to like them? The pay kind of really sucks and I have been trying to convince myself for the past 5 years that I will never go back to a restaurant again so, am I going to regret this? I was also very determined to make sure no one knew my experience. All of that fear and doubt lasted for about 3 days. My work spoke for itself. I guess there is nothing wrong with having a sense of pride in your ability. Also, it turns out everyone there is great. What was really funny was I even worked with one of the servers at another restaurant several years ago at a restaurant in Miami.

All in all it was a great first week. I look at it as I am getting paid to work out 5 days a week. I honestly feel amazing. My feet, back and arm were killing me but everything began to hurt less by Thursday so that’s a win for me.
