One Small Chang at a Time

It’s the start of my second week of being home and I’m reflecting back. Last week I gave my self the OK to pretty much do nothing and that’s what I did! I may have felt guilty a little bit because all the things I need to catch up on are still there. I still haven’t sent out the thank you cards for the wedding but it was a well deserved break. This is a new week. That “To Do” list needs to come out and Hulu needs to be set aside (OMG I started watching “This is Us” and well that’s a conversation for another time).

Since I announced that I was quitting my job and changing careers all together I suddenly had something to look forward to and a reason to get up in the morning. I started with 1 small change and lost 5 pounds in a Couple of weeks. In order to tell you that I have to tell you a quick story first.

I have been feeling really off since about February-ish and its only been getting worse. Lately its been so bad that I made a doctors appointment. I don’t like going to the doctor because they always try to prescribe you medicine. So, when the past few weeks have been so bad where I literately didn’t have the energy to even talk, that’s when I knew I couldn’t just ignore it and hope it will get better on its own. Surprise surprise she was shoving medicine down my throat. Fist she said it was gastritis, which didn’t seem to off because of the heartburn since March. Then I must have been having a horrible reaction to the medicine she told me to take because  I got worse and was having a hard time breathing. I went back to the doctor and she gave me an inhaler. I used it for about a week and now don’t have that much difficulty breathing anymore but with all the research I’ve been doing I decided enough is enough and my diet needed to change, because now my life depends on it. I read as much as possible about what to eat and what not to eat to help with the gastritis (and the possibility of stomach ulcers) and made my first change, Breakfast.

That 1 small initial change was breakfast. First thing I did was I stopped drinking coffee. It was surprisingly not that difficult. The next change I made was replacing the coffee with a smoothie made with whatever I had in my fridge (carrots, Granny Smith apples, spinach, berries, honey, flax seed and banana). You can add almost anything to a smoothie as long as you put a granny smith apple in, it wont taste half bad.

The next item on my breakfast table that had to be altered was my eggs. Over easy and salt and pepper. That’s it. I wouldn’t have it every morning either. I had to remove the croissant, cheese and whatever else I threw in that glorious breakfast sandwich just about every morning.  I added in a snack a couple hours later with a yogurt and granola. The yogurt is supposed to help add probiotics to my stomach.

It felt good to step on the scale and see that the weight was finally coming off. My husband and I also decided to not go out as much anymore and cook at home. Yes that means I have to wash more dishes but to be honest, my food tastes way better than a majority of the restaurants we go to anyway. With me cooking at home more, we have been able to stay away from fried foods, really fatty things with mayo and very cheesy anything. I would make sure we went to the supermarket together so if I saw something bad he would tell me no and vice versa.

So here we are at the beginning of my second week as a… can I say it? I’m a stay at home wife! Hahah well not for to long, or not full time at least. I needed a few weeks to catch up on life and I am determined to go to our storage unit and organize that thing, but I do have a couple things up my sleeve. First, I am going to start taking a 20 minute power walk on my treadmill.

Talk to you soon!
