How I Edit My Instagram Photos & How To Have A Theme

Let’s state the obvious, Instragram isn’t a place for a bunch of silly photos any more. It has evolved into a tremendous platform for people who consider themselves as creators to showcase the results of their creative work and find potential employers. There is an abundance of immaculate profiles which present unbelievable photos or videos. I have already talked about my favourite Instagram pages I derive my inspiration from. If you missed that post, you can click here to read it.
Today I want to concentrate more on Instagram editing and creating your own theme. I don’t consider myself as professional in no way but quite a few people really enjoy my feed and find it aesthetically pleasing and asked questions about editing and so on. So I thought instead of showing all steps to each individual, I would better combine all my tips and tricks, turn it into a blog post and share it with the whole world. But before getting to actual editing, I want to say that it has taken me a really long time to find my Instagram style. I have tried millions of apps and settings just to get to level I am on right now. What I am saying is that it is OK to not be happy with you feed and feel a pang of jealousy whilst scrolling through some alluring profiles. It will take some time to discover your own theme, so be patient.
Let’s move onto tips and tricks. First things first, no app can fix the image of poor quality. Editing is just a tool which makes a good photo even better, your photo should already have a good quality before editing. That’s why it is so important to follow some rules:
•don’t take photos of everything you can see, find things that give you pleasure and which make you want to capture them
•find your colour spectrum and try to stick to it(again it can take some time to discover your preferable colours)
•have good lighting (which can be a problem sometimes)
•take a couple of photos and choose the best one

Some people tend to use big DSLR cameras for Instagram but for me it is just to much. I am pretty happy with my IPhone camera, so I use that for my profile.
My editing process begins with effects in actual IPhone. I apply Fade for almost all of my photos. It makes all the colours less bright which is exactly what I need at this point.
Then I move to my beloved VSCO cam. I always use A6 effect as it gives a warm tone to my photos. I bring down the exposure to -1 and bring up the contrast to +1. I also add a bit of sharpness here as well.

Now it’s time for Enlight which is not a free app but I love using it and you can achieve unbelievable results in it. If you are not willing to buy it, I am sure you can make something similar in a different app. In Enlight I always enhance the white colour using Target (Image-Target-Change Exposure).

After that I adjust Vivid. This effect adds a warm hue and makes my photo brighter. I can also play around with the settings if I’m not quite happy with the result.

Now you can see what we had in the beginning and what we ended up with. In general this is what I tend to do to achieve such a warm tone theme.

Your limits are endless when it comes to Instagram photos. You can pick any app and any effect, it is totally up to you.
Here are some of my favourite images from my Instagram account. If you wish to see more of that, don’t forget to subscribe to my Instagram profile.
