Roger Federer’s Charity Foundation Provides Schooling And Food For A Million Children

Roger Federer is a name that stands out in the category of tennis, but also in the world of charity, the Swiss tennis player being the founder of many charity foundations around the globe.

One of them is the Roger Federer Foundation that was established in 2004 – right after his first Wimbledon victory in 2003. The organization provides access to quality education for thousands and now over a million Children living in the poorest areas of Africa and Switzerland.

In the past 15 years, the famous tennis player has opened more than 50 preschools in Malawi, South Africa, and a number of early childhood centers throughout six countries.

After his visit in one of these preschools built in Malawi back in 2015, he gave the following statement:

I’m so happy and emotional that I can see a preschool of this quality here–it’s quite extraordinary. The community is so committed to helping the kids, it’s so important (as) the foundation for learning.

In 2015, the foundation said they expect to support one million children in getting access to quality education by 2018. Not only did the organization reach this number by 2018, but they managed to surpass it by over a hundred.

Janine Händel, the CEO of the foundation, confessed that it took a lot of work and effort to achieve their goal. Here’s her statement:

It took a lot of work and determination to achieve this amazing thing. There was no other possibility than achieving this goal because Roger always achieves his goals. There are one million children who benefit from the major quality of education in the school, pre-school, kindergarten. One million children have now a better chance to make their way in life, to get a job, to exit from poverty…Roger believes in the empowerment of the people and their potential. That’s a fundamental value in our every-day work. We strongly believe early education is one of the most powerful weapons to empower children exiting from poverty. It’s actually proven that education makes people better citizen, be more prepared when it comes to dealing with issues, and they have more instruments to manage their life.

Roger Federer is one of the most successful tennis players of all time, being the only male player to win 20 Grand Slam singles titles and hold the world’s number one place of the ATP rankings for 310 weeks. He’s the only one who has won the BBC Overseas Sports Personality award four times. But most importantly, he is a great human being who has never forgotten the less fortunate.
