Caribbean Island Barbuda Wiped Off The Map After Hurricane Irma — Here Are The Predictions By the World’s Best Forecast Model.

The small Caribbean island of Barbuda is “practically uninhabitable” after it was kicked by Hurricane Irma. The rescue team who is there confirmed death toll climbed to three this Wednesday.

The Prime Minister of Barbuda Gaston Browne says that 90 percent of the structures of Barbuda was destroyed by the Hurricane Irma which has 185-mph winds.

Gaston Browne says Barbuda is practically uninhabitable. Browne told Antigua/Barbuda Broadcasting Services that homes of nearly 1,700 people were totally destroyed.

He released an optimistic statement early Wednesday from lesser-hit Antigua, which is home to about 80,000 people in this time:

It is clear that Antigua and Barbuda are on the big test ∼ he wrote in the statement posted to Facebook.

But to make sure after taking a helicopter ride to survey the damage to Barbuda, which is just 30 miles north of Antigua he says:

I was never thinking that it is possible that you could have such a contrast.

Browne said he would order an evacuation for the people in both islands due to Hurricane Jose.

“At this moment, there are reports of two dead and two seriously injured,” said the French minister for overseas affairs, Annick Girardin. But obviously, the situation can change very fast. Because Hurricane Irma is unpredictable.

I am shocked from this Hurricane Irma that covers us, the island is devastated, it is apocalyptic, a lot of damage, many roofs destroyed ∼ St. Barts Senator Michel Magras says for the UK’s Daily Express.

Hurricane Irma set a record as the Atlantic Ocean’s strongest ever for 185-mph sustained winds before entering the Caribbean Sea.

A national reconstruction plan will be implemented as soon as possible ∼ says French President Emmanuel Macron.

He announced that the country would set up a relief fund for the battered island.

Here’s what the world’s most accurate weather model predicts:

A potentially catastrophic hurricane will approach southern Florida this weekend.

As of Thursday morning, the weather checkers discussed within are still more or less accurate. However, we will post an updated story based on the latest Model data by around 3:30 pm ET on Thursday.

If you follow hurricane forecasting, you know that in recent years, the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts has the best forecast model in the world. The model is produced by an organization of 34 nations generates the best forecasts for hurricane tracks in the world. During Hurricane Harvey, it even exceeded the skill of human forecasters at the National Hurricane Center.

For this reason, the European model now has a big influence on the forecasts for hurricanes around the world. Including those hurricanes in the Atlantic, and in particular Hurricane Irma.

This new system has superior hardware to make enormously big calculations. The European forecast model has a method by which it better assimilates real-world data observations from weather networks around the world.

Every 12 hours the European model makes checks. The ensemble forecast typically is about an hour later.

The other forecast models from around the world this morning were saying that Irma will remain off the east coast of Florida. However, the European model was still checking land fall position along the southern Florida coast.

The European model shows a landfall almost directly over Miami.

The effects would be bad, but not devastating for southern Florida. What we can confidently say from the modeling data is that there is a reasonable 50/50 that Irma will turn north to the Bahamas Islands. It will move far from east of the Miami area to bring dangerous winds and storm surge. But there also is a pretty good chance that catastrophic winds are coming to one of the wealthiest, most well-developed coastlines of the country, stretching from Miami to West Palm Beach.
