OTBT Boots : Cushioned Comfort for City and Country Excursions

It’s always fun to introduce new arrivals of fall footwear, especially when they’re beautiful Otbt boots (see our brand review) . Contemporary, versatile and comfortable, OTBT (Off the Beaten Track) continues to impress us with stylish footwear with a funky vibe and lots of built-in comfort. I review the Fernweh low-calf boot below, followed by Beth’s review of the Causeway mid-shaft riding boot.

OTBT Fernweh

The OTBT Fernweh fills a gap in my closet full of boots in varying heights. This slim-profile bootie is higher than an ankle boot, yet a tad lower than a mid-calf boot. Even though it has a slouchy look, these OTBT boots fit snugly from ankle to calf making the Fernweh a perfect choice for pairing with cropped pants and jeans (or wearing over leggings and skinnies).

As far as comfort is concerned, these OTBT boots have got it down! The insole is no afterthought– while it’s not removable, it is generously cushioned with memory foam from toe to heel. The inside fabric feels like velvet and adds a cozy feel for cooler weather. The double-stacked block heel adds a little lift (2″) while absorbing shock from walking on hard surfaces. I wore these around town for hours with no problem–my feet felt gently hugged by the OTBT Fernweh (which interestingly means “wanderlust” in German).

I like the silver back zipper as it adds an edgy touch without cluttering up the side profile. I’m wearing the OTBT Fernweh in new black which is a supple suede with something like a snakeskin texture to it–very cool. However, it is available in smooth leathers also.

I’d say the OTBT Fernweh best fits a narrow to medium width foot. I wear mine without socks since the lining is so soft and the fit is already snug in my usual size 10. If you want to wear with a socks, I’d recommend ordering up a half size. While not wide like Dansko, the toe box is accommodating of a slightly wider forefoot.

Find the OTBT Fernweh in sizes 6-11 for $169.95 from OTBTShoes.com, $179 from Zappos, Shoes.com, and Amazon.

OTBT Causeway

Beth chose the OTBT Causeway mid-calf riding boot for review–look at that rich espresso suede! The materials and style details reflect the high quality of OTBT boots–like the slightly distressed suede uppers, brass side buckles, stapled welt detailing, and leather and brass pull tabs on the zippers (yes, there’s a side zipper for easy on and off). She loves the 11.8” shaft circumference – a perfect fit for her slender calves. There’s no gapping, even with leggings or skinny jeans. The 7.9” shaft height is great too; not too tall, not too short.

A memory foam insole is welcome and makes a big difference, especially under the heel and forefoot. The flexible EVA outsole adds another layer of comfort, as does the moderate arch support. The boots looked narrow to her at first, but she found there is plenty of room in the forefoot for her medium width feet with moderate bunions. She’s also fond of the biker-meets-equestrian styling – not too tough, not too uptight. Just right.

Find the OTBT Causeway in sizes 6-11 for $178.95 from OTBTShoes.com, Nordstrom, and Shoes.com.
