Oahu 2015 - Day 7 & 8

For our last day we decided to head north thru the middle of the island. We had been to the North Shore years ago but this time we Stopped at a bunch of places that we hadn't visited before.

First we needed some food so we went to Shige's Saimin Stand in Wahiawa. A very puka type place but good. I had my traditional grilled cheese with mac salad and Ken had saimin.

Next we went to the Kukaniloko Birthing Stones. It is the most powerful birth site for the island's high chiefs. Had a really nice atmosphere. Slightly hard to find but worth a visit.

We then found a nearby coffee farm called Green World Coffee Farm. Nice spot, many free samples. And you can walk around the coffee plants out back.

We were also close to the Dole Plantation. We have never been there and tiki folk love the Dole whip, which we have never had. So yeah, we had to stop. The Dole whip was very good and needed since it was about 90 out. We didn't take the train, will leave that for another visit.

We were going to go more into the town of the North Shore but I missed the turn off so we headed more east. Stopped by a random beach to walk around. We then tried to go to Waimea beach but there was no parking to be had. It just wasn't meant for us to lay on a beach today.

But it was the day to take in the historical site because then we located the Pu'u O Mahuka Heiau State Historic Site. It is the largest heiau (place of worship) on the island, has a nice like hiking path and a view of Waimea Bay. They think it might be from the 1600's.

After that visit we drove by Ted's Bakery, home of the infamous haupia pie. Got a garlic shrimp rice plate and of course a slice of pie.

We then drove down the east side of the island and stopped off at a strange mall and the Kualoa Beach park to take in the sunset, Chinaman's hat and the chickens.

Since it was our last night we had to spend it at the Banyan Tree bar at the Moana Surfrider. Always nice to have a mai tai by the ocean and listen to some Hawaiian music. I also the love the memorabilia they have upstairs at this hotel.

The next day we had our last two bagels (taro and guava)  from the Japanese mart and then stopped off at best Musubi spot anywhere, Mana Bu's for musubi for the plane.

Was a good trip but not sure we would go in July again for it was really hot and crowded but was nice to go back.
