How to do Read Aloud in PTE Speaking

The more you practise, the more confident you will become. Succeeding at PTE Read Aloud means practising reading aloud every day, and recording yourself to listen to your own performance to identify areas that need improvement.

Record yourself to practise PTE Read Aloud

Use a recording device to record yourself as you read the passages aloud. This will help you to listen back to your performance and identify areas that need improvement. Invest in a good quality microphone to ensure that your recordings are clear and easy to listen to. You can also use the built-in microphone on your smartphone or computer, but make sure it is positioned correctly. Record your Practice sessions in a quiet location where you won’t be interrupted or distracted. Avoid areas with background noise, such as traffic or other people talking.

Audacity is a free and open-source audio recording and editing software that you can use to record and edit your practice sessions. Pay attention to your pronunciation, stress, intonation, and pacing. Identify areas that need improvement and make a note of them for your next practice session.

Different types of texts

Practice reading different types of text, such as news articles, academic papers, or fiction, to help you adjust your pacing to suit the type of text you are reading. Use a timer to simulate the timing of the actual PTE exam. This will help you get a sense of how much time you have for each passage and how to adjust your pace accordingly.

Look for sample passages online or in PTE preparation books. You can do PTE read aloud practice using these passages to get a sense of the kind of texts that may appear on the exam.

In the PTE exam, you may encounter different accents, so it’s important to practise with a variety of accents to prepare yourself for this.

PTE Read Aloud may also include academic vocabulary, so it’s important to be familiar with common academic words and phrases.

Pronunciation in PTE Read Aloud

Pronunciation is key to success in PTE Read Aloud. Work on your pronunciation of individual sounds, stress, and intonation.

Pacing

Take your time while reading and don’t rush through the passage. Pacing in PTE Read Aloud is important. Focus on reading at a steady pace, taking time to pause and breathe when necessary. It’s important to read at a steady pace so that you can be easily understood by the computer program that scores your performance. Avoid reading too quickly or too slowly. Pausing at the end of a sentence or after a comma can help you catch your breath and create a natural rhythm.

Take a deep breath before starting to read, and continue taking deep breaths during the passage to help regulate your breathing and control your pace. Practice your pacing in PTE Read Aloud so that you can perform well on test day in this area.

Timing

Practice reading passages aloud while timing yourself. This can help you get a sense of how much time you have for each passage and how to adjust your pace accordingly. Practice reading different types of text, such as news articles, academic papers, or fiction, to help you adjust your pacing to suit the type of text you are reading.
