How much time do you need to prepare for PTE?

If you need to pass an English language test for your visa or studies, you may be asking yourself – how much time should I set aside to Prepare for the PTE language test?

Those looking for an easy answer will be disappointed because there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

Luckily, there are plenty of ways to prepare for an English Language test. We’ve put together this useful explainer of ways you can prepare for the PTE (Pearson Test of English), one of the most commonly used English tests.

Whether you have a year to prepare or you’re wondering how to prepare for PTE in a week, E2 Test Prep has resources to suit your time and budget that will boost your confidence and, more importantly, your test score.

Understand the structure of PTE test

There are three sections in the PTE test: Speaking & Writing, Reading and Listening. The PTE focuses on English found in an academic environment.

Speaking & Writing

This is the longest section of the test. It takes up to 67 minutes. You will be required to do a personal introduction based on the audio passage you will hear. The introduction section is entirely meant for you to become familiar with the test structure and does not affect your score. Once you complete the introduction, you will answer the rest of the sections recording your voice or writing according to the instructions provided.

If you want to get into more detail on how to answer each of the sections we recommend creating your PTE account at E2 Test Prep or watching our video on the topic.

Reading

This section is 30 minutes long. Here you will find different texts of academic nature and some questions after each one. Keep in mind: The PTE is an integrated test. That means that any answer in the reading section that requires you to write will impact your writing final score.

Listening

The listening section lasts up to 43 minutes.  You will hear different conversations that range from informal conversations to academic lectures.
