Must (mast) zorunda olmak.

Tek başına çekilemeyen, can, may, must gibi yar­dımcı fiiller vardır ki bunlar hiç bir zaman şekillerini değiştirmezler.

Can : bir şey yapmak olanağını anlatır:

I can see you, sizi görebilirim, görebiliyorum.

I cannot see you, sizi göremem, göremiyorum.

Geçmiş zamanı : could (kud). Örnek: I could see you, sizi görebilirdim.

May: bir şey yapmak olasılığı veya iznini anla­mını göstermek için kullanılır:

You may come, gelebilirsiniz.

You may not come, gelmeyebilirsiniz. Geçmiş za­manı: might (mayt). Örnek: You might come, gelebi­lirdiniz.

Must: kesin bir yüküm, zorunluğu anlatır:

We must learn, öğrenmeliyiz.

We must not eat, yememeliyiz.

Geçmiş zamanı yoktur.

Olumsuz şekli not ile anlatılan fiiller şunlardır:

respect (ris’pekt) saygı.

The ducks are very glad; they are very fond of rain. But the little birds are not pleased at all. They go and shelter under the green leaves of the tree.

have you ever asked yourself : hiç kendi kendi­nize sordunuz mu?

how is that? (hau is dhat): bu nasıl şey? (idiom). how many drinks a day: günde kaç kadeh (içki), cent (sent): amerikan ufak parası; yüz (cents) bir dolardır.

three dollars a day : günde üç dolar, how long have you been drinking?: ne vakitten beri içiyorsunuz? (idiom).

if you had never drunk: eğer hiç içmemiş olsay­dınız.

you could own (y^u kud on): sahip olabilirdiniz.
