Esteli Nicaragua

Esteli Nicaragua is a hybrid word in nahuatl ( indigenous language).  EZTLI means “blood” and LI means “river”, for this Esteli, means ” Blood River”. Also it is known as “The Capital of the tobacco”,  because there are 33 cigars factories located around the city. It is one of the most important cigar producing cities in the world. Last year 2015 Esteli Nicaragua produced 143 millions of Tobacco cigars and 90 % of them were exported to United States.

Esteli is the third largest city in Nicaragua . It has a size of 2, 395 square kilometers and it is located 148 km away from Managua at height of 850 meters. The population is about 123,000. It is surrounded by smaller mountains and plenty of woods. So you have  fresher and cleaner air like in most cities in Nicaragua.

Estelianos, are friendly and welcoming, that’s why visitors do not require much time to feel comfortable. Our city is the most commercial city in northern Nicaragua. It has two museum, one is historical and the other pay tribute to the victims of the civil war in the 80’s and it’s called ” Museum of the Heroes and Martyrs”

There are many hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and places where you can enjoy yourself. Also it has several ATM machines spread around the city. There are many tourist attractions like waterfalls and nature reserve in the northern department of Esteli. The most famous are the Reserve of Miraflor and the Reserve of Tisey-Estanzuela.

It is also home of the most successful football club in Nicaragua “The Real Esteli”, nicknamed “The Train of the North” ( El Tren del Norte).  Also it is home of the professional baseball team,  which makes Esteli one of Nicaraguan cities with both, a professional football soccer team and a baseball teams.
