Film review, examen oficial de inglés, nivel C2, Proficiency CPE Cambridge

Seguimos ampliando los writings en La Web del Inglés. Esta vez vamos con uno de nivel C2, concretamente para preparar el examen Proficiency de Cambridge, CPE. Se trata de un film review, sobre una película que te hace sentir bien, te causa felicidad, o como decimos en inglés, “A feel-good movie”. SPECTATORS WILL BE BLOWN AWAY

Being a bit of a film buff, when I heard that this film had broken box office records in France, I was itching to see it inasmuch as not many French movies get so glomming reviews.

The story, which had been shown many times before, arrives with the neither English nor French faithful title “The intouchables”. It is directed by Oliver Nackache and Erik Toledano, and based on a true story that always awakens audience interest.

What makes it unique and fit the label of “feel good movies” are the two men who star it, Francois Cluzet as the rich aristocrat, Phillipe, and the streetwise black guy Omar Sy as his newest employee, Driss.

Philippe is a handicapped man who needs an assistant to help him in his daily activities, so the film begins with the interviewing process to select the perfect candidate for him.

It is at this stage when Driss appears on scene as one of the applicants.

His lacking manners and his unwillingness to be selected attract the attention of his future boss and notwithstanding his absence of enthusiasm and preparation,he gets selected for a trial period.

It is hilarious how he clumsily, and not feeling sorry at all for his employer, starts taking care of him and showing the importance of seizing the moment and enjoying life.

 The more they get to know and accept each other, the more they learn about their different personalities.  I have to admit that hardly ever do we see such a bizarre couple becoming best pals.

By the end of the film, no one would remain indifferent to this amusing and clever story with such social relevance, which I have to admit confess, brought a tear to my eye.

NOTAS

Como se puede observar en las notas azules, muchas cosas positivas encontramos en este review nivel Proficiency. En primer lugar, la estructura adecuada para este tipo de writings, lo cual no es de extrañar hablando de un nivel C2. En segundo lugar, y esto sí me parece digno de destacar es el vocabulario utilizado, que cumple perfectamente con lo exigido en este nivel, y es dicho vocabulario el que lo distingue de un nivel inferior, C1. Y por último, la gramática, también acorde a nivel, destacando especialmente una inversión con negative adverb (hardly ever do we see…), una double comparison (the more… the more…), una cleft sentence (What makes it unique and fit the label of…), la variedad de tiempos verbales en pasado (past perfect combinando con past continuous y past simple), such + a + noun, neither… nor…, etc.
