Not surprised that Veliko Turnovo is so popular, it is a real gem. Located in the middle of Northern Bulgaria, the city is midway between Sofia and Varna.A particular delight is the sound and light show held most evenings at the fortress.
I really hope that Plovdiv gets its act together to be a magnificent European City of Culture for 2019. The city has so much to offer, not least the magnificent Roman Amphitheatre.
