Head-On Collision In Columbia, South Carolina Kills One And Injures Two Others Over Memorial Day Weekend

Although many people spent their Memorial Day weekend a little differently than they normally would thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the holiday has still managed to maintain its title as being one of the most dangerous holidays for drivers. This past Sunday, one person was killed and two others suffered injuries in a head-on collision in Columbia, SC, reports The State. The source says that a 67-year-old man had been driving in his Toyota van on Leesburg Road near Mountain Brook Drive at around 10:00 p.m.

As the van headed west on Leesburg, a Ford Fusion driven by a 63-year-old man heading in the opposite direction crossed the center line and struck the van head-on. The driver of the van suffered fatal injuries while the two occupants of the Fusion suffered injuries and had to be transported to an area hospital. The source says that it took first responders and Columbia police officers two hours to clear the scene.

While Columbia police continue to investigate this accident, the Richland County coroner’s office has yet to disclose the identity of those involved.

What should a driver do if they were involved in a car accident in Columbia, SC?

Contact a Columbia, SC Car Accident lawyer. Although not every car accident requires the help of an attorney, they do warrant an initial consultation with one. Why? As a victim, you are likely entitled to compensation for medical expenses, vehicular repairs, lost wages, and more. Unfortunately, it can be pretty difficult to determine what the maximum amount of compensation is that you are entitled to as insurance companies aren’t looking to provide you with it.

Instead, most companies undervalue the claims they receive and neglect to explain to a claimant what it is they are entitled to recover compensation for. This often leaves car crash victims walking away from an accident with far less money than they were actually eligible to collect. However, when you choose to consult with a lawyer, you not only gain a better understanding of what your legal rights are but also what you are entitled to recover compensation for (i.e. medical expenses, lost wages, vehicle repairs, diminished value, etc.)

Should you decide to retain a Columbia, SC car accident attorney following the occurrence of a crash, you won’t have to worry about the insurance company taking advantage of you. And if you are unable to recover the full amount of money your injuries/losses are valued at from the insurer, our attorneys can help you file a personal injury lawsuit that would potentially get you the remainder of what you are due.
