I'm an Editor Who's Hard to Impress—9 New Pieces That Get a Yes From Me

I might be a Fashion editor, but it might surprise you to learn that I don’t shop a whole lot. I know what you’re thinking; Isn’t that counterintuitive? I liken it to my friend who’s a baker and doesn’t eat much cake. It’s not that you don’t enjoy it—the opposite, in fact. The difference is that you don’t indulge in it for the sake of it.

For the last 10 years or so, fashion has been my livelihood and my greatest passion. I preview collections before they’re released, analyse the runways to pick out the need-to-know trends and scour new-in sections daily, all to bring you the very best that fashion has to offer. As a result, I’ve become very particular when shopping for myself. For one thing, I have to be in the right mood to shop. Shopping is a big part of my job, which can make doing it on my own time a chore. I also have to be willing to part with some cash. (I was raised to be very money-conscious.) Plus, my increased exposure to fashion means my taste has become all the more specific—something has to really impress me before I’m willing to invest in it. I’m picky, and I don’t care who knows it!

That’s not to say that everything I buy is an investment—at least, not in terms of cost. I love the high street, and in Britain, we have access to some of the best affordable brands in the world. Although I shop from it, I do so mindfully. And I apply that same mentality to any high-end purchases I’m considering. In the past, I’ve been swayed into purchasing on name alone, but in my tenure at Who What Wear, I’ve developed a thicker skin for designer pieces, which allows me to look past the gilded embossing and instead see the piece for what it is and determine whether it’s actually worth it.

As you can see, I’m very particular about the clothes I wear, the story they tell, and the impact they have on my life. So why not share my shopping picks with you? These are pieces even a perfectionist can’t find fault with. I hope you find something you like and can see yourself wearing for a long time.

A new tailored trouser from H&M spells one thing—a quick sell-out.

These best-selling Mary Janes have just been restocked, and I won’t allow myself to miss out again.

The perfect top update to my skirt and jeans collection.

This bag comes in a handful of versatile tones, but this khaki version is my favourite.

Editor-in-Chief, Hannah Almassi, sent me a link to this skirt, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

I had my eye on the gold version, but now I’m tempted by the silver shade.

I keep seeing this dress on my Instagram feed.

Canvas bags are the quiet-luxury aesthetic.

A top I know I can wear day and night; an essential in my holiday suitcase.

I’m a sucker for a waistcoat co-ord, so it’s little wonder that I’m making a beeline for this pairing.

These already look like they’ll be the most comfortable trousers in my wardrobe.

Regular readers of my column will know how much of a fan of Charles & Keith I am; it’s expensive looking handbags just cannot be beaten. Now, I’ve fallen for this crescent bag.

A pretty, balletcore addition to any knitwear collection.

I already own one Dôen and love the quality and fit, so it makes sense that I’m also tempted by this delicate gingham option.

I’m looking to add something fun to my staple jewellery collection—these earrings are it.

If it wasn’t already clear, I have this thing for matching sets. This Jigsaw duo is another standout in my eyes.

Black dresses transcend seasons, so you’ll still get lots of wear out of this style, even when summer ends.

I’d wear this with denim shorts and tan sandals for easy summer styling.

Moonstone is one of my favourite gems, and this necklace is so special.

Isn’t this the most beautiful shade of green?

H&M’s wide-leg trousers will forever be my high-street weaknesses.

In my opinion, navy always makes for a chic dress choice.

These minimal sandals come in a slew of sleek colours, but the white pair are my preference.

I’ve been thinking about this Dôen piece nonstop.

The matching skirt is naturally also on my mind.

Who What Wear UK’s Editor in Chief Hannah Almassi showed me this skirt set and, honestly, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.

The skirt comes in sizes 4 to 26.

I always gravitate towards simple sandals, and these are some of the sleekest I’ve seen this season. Not only do they look designer but the padded footbed makes them incredibly comfortable to wear. I should know—I’ve already ordered them.

I rarely wear minidresses but this style, with its asymmetric strap, gathered bodice, and chic khaki colour is enough to tempt me to do so.

This basket unlocks a new level of summer nostalgia for me. I can see myself using it for picnics, to carry towels to the beach, and to pick up rosé for balmy evenings in the garden.

These incredible teardrop earrings sold out in the silver colourway faster than I’ve ever seen earrings sell out. Now, they’re back, and I didn’t hesitate in adding them to my basket.

Turns out, summer is a yellow short from Sézane. This will make the perfect pairing for my collection of white blouses—just add a denim jacket and the above tan sandals.

Faithfull the Brand might be known for its zingy colours and prints but its quieter pieces, such as this black linen co-ord, are just as impactful. I can think of so many ways I’d style this button-up shirt in particular.

I have a serious weakness for white dresses, and this one is just perfect. Just wait until you see the back…

Dragon Diffusion bags never lose their appeal, and the brand’s latest Japan bag is sure to follow suit.

Not only did this jumper make my wish list, but so did the matching skirt.

if you told me these were designer, I’d absolutely believe you. True to Mango form, they also come in versatile black.

On the subject of skirts, this By Malene Birger number is going to be a hit this spring—I can feel it.

The perfect ballet flat doesn’t exi…

I’m picturing this with loose jeans and slingback heels.

I live in jeans, and I’ve found my new favourite top to wear with them.

I consider Neous’s Phoenix bag to be a timeless classic; one that’s instantly recognisable.

I don’t know about you, but I’m still not ready to stop wearing comfortable, wide-leg trousers.

The cutest little spring jacket I’ve come across.

Ruching is a key dress trend this season, and this midi from Ninety Percent is one of the sleekest interpretations.
